I'm looking to upgrade my proccesor and maybe my memory as well. have a Athlon XP 2000+ (1.7ghz) and 1024MB memory. what you guys think? I plan on purchasing the ATI X800 XT videocard. I want my computer to run games in the best fastest most eye candy way.

Don't forget to set up a striped RAID array with a parity disk for optimal speed... one thing I forgot to do with my rig, and suffer for with slow disk access compared to the rest of the machine. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
That will kick you from BIOS to windows in a microsecond <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
And after years of those prehistoric, huge, verry sensitive spawn-of-the-devil IDE cables i am glad that the human kind made a step forward by making SATA <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
P.S. I know there are rounded cables for IDE but that is just a mask <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
IDE Raids are much slower.
I can scan the pic from a hardware magazine if you want.
Personally, I would pick up a athlon 3000 or 3200 cheap and get nvidiva/ati's latest and greatest. However if you have money to burn and don't particularly care about future proofing, go for the a64 and a get a nice RAID set up. Then next year or so splash out next year when all the new technologies will be mainstream <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Apart from e-wang extension/having won the lottery/being plain sad...
WHAT THE HELL FOR?
There's absolutely zero there that 'needs' upgrading, and everything you're considering buying will nosedive in price before it becomes vaguely useful.

Also, that page lists all the restrictions your motherboard has, I dont know why you ask again... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I picked up a Athlon64 3000+ w/ the Asus K8V and I love it, and it wasn't too expensive. But mind you, this was upgrading from my old Slot A Athlon 850 Mhz.
But if I were you, I'd just go w/ the Athlon XP 3000+, or 3200+. And get a stick of DDR400. Any large computer upgrade (going to a new chipset) would be a waste of money in my opinion.

If you can afford that, please send me some money
