<div class="IPBDescription">Mark's (-custom, -fall, etc) NS Servers</div> You don't even wanna know what I've gone thru to get STEAM working smoothly, I love NS that much... apparently...
But for some reason I can't seem to get on any of Mark's Custom NS servers. I don't recall having been kicked or banned from them, not even in WON days. I can see the map & player# in a normal STEAM search, but it just keeps retrying and retrying and... then quits. I don't get a 'kicked message. I've messed with my filters, we're online & flying by cable, I don't have this problem with any other servers out there... I sent an email to them, no reply so far... anyone else have this problem? Do I need a better search app?

i dunno, never heard a case like urs. if u had trouble getting steam to work, then ur PC has a problem. specs?
STEAM has been so buggy that every time it gives me crap, I just save my /NSP folder aside (to retain all STEAM-DL'd customs) and un/re-install STEAM. After most platform updates, it just won't work at all so it's been better to just re-install at the first hint of trouble. Done that 4 or 5 times in the last few months, by now.
Still, if i was having this problem with other servers, even occasionally, I'd think it was STEAM. But it works fine for all other servers... I only get kicked from full or password-locked (non-mark's) servers...
(sigh). I'd just let it go, but Mark's has the coolest customs (I never play on normal maps) AND people are often playing there. Lots of custom-heavy servers out there, but with little traffic...
Can you tell me how to get to Mark's NS forums? I have a feeling my email has been lost/ignored/swamped in the tide...

Anyway, fixed my own problem. Since the most recent re-up of Norton Firewall, It's been prompting me at every "attack" to permit or block access by outside systems. It's down to a dull roar now, because apparently most of the sites that have been spamming / accessing me are now specifically blocked; FW creates a special rule each time you choose BLOCK, for use against future attempts. So I searched through those rules (a few hundred by now), and found one with the base Mark's address: 66.135.8.whatever, ports 27015,27016,27017. Removed this rule, and suddenly I'm sucking down mass quantities of custom maps from the premier source. I can't say why or when Mark's server(s) tried to access my system, and if it happens (raises an alert) again I guess I'll click PERMIT instead, or get used to finding & removing the rule again each time I want to go to Mark's.
So. If you have a problem like mine, check your Firewall advanced settings. First make sure (through your firewall probably) all the right ports STEAM needs (listed in their FAQ) are being 'filtered' (watched) by your system, then check your auto and user-configured FW rules. Chances are, you've accidentally blocked yourself out of the very server(s) you're trying to reach.
