<div class="IPBDescription">Lag peaks and ping jumps</div> I've been playing NS for quite a while now, since 2.01 and have never really run into any problems. I recently went on a trip for a week, and when I came back, My ping was jumping to 1000+ in firefights, while my fps moving from about 60 down to 20. I cannot figure out why. I have tinkered with my rates and such, but that doesn't do anything. It isn't my connection because I have dsl that has run fine in the past with pings at about 100. I recently called the Qwest company and they confirmed sending me 256kbps and I am recieving about 230kbps. I'm using Norton antivirus and ZoneAlarm, and have tried turning the firewall off but there is no improvements there. I run spywate and adaware at least once a week.

Any advice would be very helpful...

My specs are as follows:
Intel® Celeron™ CPU 1300MHz
1.29 GHz
512 MB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400

Qwest Arescom dsl 256kbps

    Well I had this problem as well. Guess you are running WinXP. Even if not try the following:

    * Start HL/NS
    * switch to windows and open the screen the current processes
    * set the priority of the hl.exe to the lowest possible
    * pings should be solved

    Dunno why, but all the sudden exactly the same thing happened to me. Someone told me that I need to update certain things. Tried to update as much as possible, but I'm not sure if it worked. If you are using hlsw you can configure it to set the priority to low as well. Don't know exactly how this works, but I hope it'll help you anyways.
