What do you do to make the marines build
I have both bots and I'd like to know if there is anything I can do where the marines will take a commander position and build a respawning thing (i forgot the name) and build buildings and such. thank you

Whichbot does not go marines; it's alien only.

RCBot, however, can command. Well, this is a loose definition of "command". "It drops buildings" would be more accurate.

Note that the code for deducting res for bought buildings is either buggy, or non-existent; so the bot will spawn structures for free. Don't get excited; they are hardly worth keeping due to its positioning.

There is a setting in the rcbot config file to toggle commanding:

    bot_config.ini,
    "config commanding 0" / "config commanding 1"

Yeah. RCBot's commanding is terribly buggy. It has no tech tree (ie, it can place a prototype lab as its first structure) and doesn't research upgrades. The positioning of structures is badly broken (it usually builds inside walls or other non-buildable locations) and doesn't give meds or ammo. It can build stuff for free, which is nice because it doesn't build additional resource collectors. It also makes an IP for free automatically within range of the CC if a bot gets to the chair before you do.

In other words, it can sit in the chair and spawn useless stuff in random locations, but it can't command.

I've yet to see a bot that can - if anyone knows of such a thing, I would be very very interested to see it.

On the flipside, RCBot *can* play as marines. They don't follow orders too well as their waypointing is average, but they do try. It's hard to make them construct buildings you have just placed, as they tend to ignore them and try to do their own thing. But they can aim (albeit fighting unintelligently) and they are clever enough to select the right weapon for the job (knife for buildings, pistol for skulk at long range, etc) but generally the RCBot is not a good example of AI players.

Whichbot, on the other hand, is an excellent player as Aliens. It can't play marines at all, but it will give you a run for your money. It has team communication (between bots, I mean - they use true teamwork), build and expand intelligently, and even hunt as packs - they are very clever. They use all life forms and all chambers intelligently and would show fair competition for an average team of human marine players.

Now, I have no idea why I sat down and wrote all that when your question was fairly elementary, but I suppose I just got the bug this morning...

Because you're one of the many kind and helpful posters on the boards?

I didn't know that WhichBot hunted in groups, so that was useful for me at least. It's certainly not a wasted effort.

I also feel guilty for slating RCBOT so much; Yeah, they do play quite well as marines, and are the only marine bot available AFAIK.

btw, you still have not changed "Commander name" on that guid of yours.
