Problems With The Console

<div class="IPBDescription">Whenever I type in it it disappears!</div> I've been having this stupid problem with my NS console ever since i started using steam.
Whenever i press the tilde(~) button to bring up the console, and then type in anything, the console promptly disappears.
I then have to press the tilde button again and sometimes it wont exit abruptly.

Also I've noticed another problem that occurs in tandem- whenever i exit my console, my crosshair gets fudged(i.e. it becomes non-existant).

So I really have 2 questions:

1. How do I make my console function normally?

2. What do I do to make my crosshair reappaear when it disappears(short of restarting the game?)

    /me ponders

    never seen this before.

    Ideas:

    1) Remove all of your .cfg files from your nsp dir (this effectivly resets all of your controlls as the files will simply be recreated.)
That is my idea for the console issue

    2) Update all drivers (specialy video)
Just a thought on the video problem, and hey, it never hurts (... wait yes it does, ok generaly dosn't hurt <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    3) Switch between OGL and D3D modes for your video settings
    Hey, yah never know

Hmm, I tried what you said, and changing to D3D fudges up the graphics completely. So I think I'll have to stay with OGL..

    I'm currently downloading the video drivers <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

In the meanwhile I've figured that just not using the console should take care of the problem, thanks for the help <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Type 'crosshair 1' in the console to get your crosshair back. That is, of course, if you can get the console to come up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> I'd suggest you delete your config.cfg file and start a fresh. Hope this helps.

    LOL!

That's like fixing a hard disk crash by using a different PC.

Console access is necessary for loads of things in-game, even if you are not a heavy .cfg switcher.

I agree with Thansal's comments about the cfg. It cant be a (to use your word,) fudged crosshair file, as it works when you do not use the console.

We know D3D looks naff; Thansal wanted you to see if the problem persists in a different video mode.
