Fade: You tried to use the CZ CD key? (like you actualy typed it in?)
Did you try and download the Steam installer with HL?

I AM REALLY GREATFUL FOR THAT MAN ... i was almost gonna pick up half life and throw it away... i got so **** i didnt know how to add ns to my game list :s now all i gotta do is to upgrade the game
Ok I still need help... I've decided, due to the shutdown of WON, to finally upgrade my computer's half-life to steam. Thus I will be upgrading to 3.0. I have changed 2 of my computers before into steam comps, running ns without any problems; however, this time it doesn't want to work...Please help!
Now everytime I try to install 3.0 (following all the given instuctions), it doesn't work. I then tried these instuctions given, every last bit of it; however, my problem is that in steam's "Games" window, the ns icon will not appear. Please help me... I have tried all of the suggestions given (I have the memory to install ns twice so memory is not the problem....).
So far this is what my steam directory looks like: Steam\SteamApps\email\half-life\ns
In the half-life folder in the steam directory I have the fmod.dll in there.
Any help would be nice (if more information is needed, just reply and I will provide what I can).
I followed these instructions and they did work thankyou. The only problem I have was just yesterday my Steam stopped working. When I tried to open it came to an Initialize window. after it reached about 5 yellow bars an error messege popsup everytime replying
"Steam.exe (Main exception); ERROR: Delete of Steam.exe failed, Win32 Error 5 "Acces Is Denide."
Do you know what this means? And how I could fix it?
I followed ALL of the instructions, it still doesnt show up in the games window. I had it working 2 days ago but Steam had an error so i had to re-install it. i played through the tram ride, i played through the training mission, installed the betas in the correct order (like i said, i had it working before.) but it STILL didnt show up in 3rd party games. its so freaking annoying to look at the instructions, follow them exacly and it still not work. Im sure its in the right directory because its Valve/steam/steamapps/email/half-life/nsp Im so frustrated right now i feel like just giving up. hopefully, soemone will know whats wrong. thanks.

Hi everybody, I am new to NS... so new I can't get it to work! I swear on my favourite zippo, I followed the instructions, but I can't swear I didn't make a mistake, so here goes!
System specs: Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 System Model: A7N8X2.0 BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM GeForce FX 5200
All of the drivers are up to date, and I run Norton 2002 in the background (also current).
I was already a Steam user (Day of Defeat, and HalfLife) so I just directed the three files to "programs/steam/steamapps/myemailaccount/half-life" (no quotes). I disabled my antivirus, ran Halflife before installing, exited Steam completely, installed the files and reactivated Steam. Ok, tried those (thanks for the help btw ), and still nothing doin'. If I try to install to my email address (no "\half-life" on the destination) it tells me I have to have 1.1.1.0 Half-life installed... which I do through Steam. I try to update it using the old WON updater, and it tells me I am current - no updates available. So I install NS into "\half-life"... and the game is recognized in Steam, yay! Now patch it, same folder (both "ns" and "nsp" appear in "\email\half-life"). Run around, yes, kill online, no. Also tried one inside the other, but most of the permutations resulted in Steam not recognizing the game at all, so they were out.
Whatever I am doing wrong is small (and forehead-smacking dumb too) so yeah... if I can't get it to install, imagine how well I play!

Thanks all! Just got into my first game - looking to see if any glitches I was reading about trying to solve mine appear.
It was a combination of things apparently. The installer for the beta was corrupt (a second one solved it). The default destination was wrong for the 2nd installer, and I don't know if it helped, but I jammed a beta3 patch in there too.
Thank you again, sometimes it helps to be "explicit"
Can anybody help me? I've installed NS 3.0 beta 4a, Steam, and done all the instructions in this forum to try to get NS running, but it still won't work. Everytime I try to join a server, it says my .dll cl_dlls\client.dll differs from the server's OR it says all my maps differ from the servers. Can anybody tell me wat's wrong and how to fix it?
okay...let's say i find 2 nsp folders..wat do i do then? go back to step 3? then those folders will still be there...argg....please tell me like...major detail plz how to get my ns running cuz i've been working at it for about 6 hours and it's still showing the client and map bsp errors
ya ok iono wat to do..when i followed your instructions thansal, it said to install ns 3.0 beta 1 to steam/steamapps/email/half-life/nsp, so i did that. THen i followed your 2nd instrctions to install ns 3.0 beta 4 into steam/steamapps/email/halfl\-life, i then get the following message that says this directory has already been installed, continue anyway? Then i followed your instructions for ns. 30 beta 4a and pointed it at steam/steamapps/email and it said the same message about "the directory has already been installed, continue anyway?" So i am completely stumped....
there is a half-life folder inside my half -life folder In addition, there is a ns folder inside the half-life folder that is inside the MAIN half-life folder..wat do i do?
nm...its working now...i reinstalled steam like 4 times so now it worked thanks thansal

try making sure it isn't readonly or something.
if you have 2 then tat is probably your problem.
My guess is that you changed your install path when you reinstalled.
