Could anyone recommend to me... uh... 'asian' techno, i.e. techno with traditional oriental flutes, etc. in it? Feel free to lock this after suggestions have been given if any at all.

Beware what people link you to. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> Yes. I'm looking for stuff without vocals, and 'asian' was a loose term. Apparently people stop at the word asian and don't read further. I'm looking for mellow stuff with traditional asian instruments.
The victory song for Naruto has some great traditional instruments. There is no "techno", it is pretty contemporary. It's hard to explain, but it may scratch your itch. I really like it at least.
Here's an Asian techo artist <a href='http://www.elektra.com/towatei/' target='_blank'>Towa Tei</a>. Some of his songs have Japanese vocals. He's also done work for Deee-Lite.
But since that's not what you want, try Photek's classic "The Seven Samurai" on the album "Form & Function". This uses some Japanese sounding samples.
There's song with traditional Japanese instruments (and some hip-hop lyrics) on the album "Riddim Warfare" by DJ Spooky. But I don't remember which song.
OH! DUH! Just thought of it... this is probably what you want: "<a href='http://www.eelstheband.com/honky/babyelephanthi.ram' target='_blank'>Baby Elephant Rock-a-bye</a>" by <a href='http://www.eelstheband.com/mchonky.html' target='_blank'>MC Honky</a>. Has a great Japanese flute that shapes the whole song.
That's all I got off the top of my head.... oh wait, one more. "Happy Valley" by Vanessa Mae on the album "Storm" has some traditional Japanese chant as part of the song and some traditional sounding instruments. But now that I think about it... it wasn't that techno based.
Ok, that's all I got for now. If I think of more I'll post em.
EDIT: Ooops. And now I notice you say no vocals... um well... try em anyway. And "The Seven Samurai" has no vocals.
the only azn band I listen to, I think, is the pizzicato five... they rox. not techno, but they do a few styles, and they're pretty universally cool...
For you guys who said you've never heard of "Asian techno" - There's simply is NO style of music that isn't created just about EVERYWHERE in the world at any time nowadays. Plus the genres are totally being thrown around and mixed about. So saying "Asian Tekknox?!?!?!1+1+1! NEVER HEARD!!1" is kind of silly cuz you know it exists, anyway. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I got a few compilations of goa trance from a time when I especially thought that music was cool. Well, they don't sound as cool now anymore, but one compilation has a 2nd CD. And on that 2nd CD is some pretty cool, mostly electornic, chill-out music with lots of asian and middle-eastern melodies, tones and moods. And no, it doesn't get irritating at all.
meh it was a joke, lighten up people <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

??!?!
no such thing
Just have to download/buy some songs and see if they have that beat. Or just create your own.
Best bet though would probably be to go to your local vinyl store (preferably an electronica one) and ask the guy at the counter.

They're in Mp3 right there for you, nice and easy, the song is titled Victory.
