<div class="IPBDescription">cl_cmdrate cl_updaterate must not be 15</div> Hi community,
for a long time i notice many players, including myself, with massive voice-communication-problems. The sound-quality is worse than before and there are almost every third second 1sec-interrupts.
So I scanned my cfg file and I found the source of our problem:
cl_cmdrate 15
cl_updaterate 15
These two variables are set to 20 (which is enough) per default in all other Half-Life-Mods and they should be set to something between 40 and 60 when using a broadband connection like DSL.
Every time I catch someone with screwed voice, I ask him to check these settings in his console, they always turn out to be at 15. Changing these to a higher value does always solve his problem.
Since not every pal got this bad settings I think they come with a fresh installation of the latest NS-Version 3b4a - but upgrading from a previous version adopts the better default setting used since many years.
So - what's up? Why did the developers changed those default values to 15 - making the center of ns-teamplay - <b>communication!</b> - very hard to provide?
That must be corrected at once! I'm tired of dialogs like...
Stroganoff (voice): "Hey, NSPlayer, pls gimme ur attention and look up these two commands in ur console!"
Stroganoff (textchat): cl_cmdrate
Stroganoff (textchat): cl_updaterate

you should really just play around with them until you get what is best <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
for starters i guess 40 isn't bad to start at i think
There's nothing the NS devs can do about people changing their own rates, or servers doing it for them. Only thing you can do is to set your cmdrate/updaterate/rate in your userconfig.cfg, which is reloaded each time you load NS.
Oh yes, they could RIP THOSE LAME ADMINS THEIR HEADS OFF for disturbing the most important aspect of ns teamplay. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
