Mouse Stops Responding

God_KillerGod_Killer Join Date: 2004-02-16 Member: 26592Members
Well sometimes everything on my mouse stops working for a third of a second to 2 seconds about. It can happen 40 times an hour to never in 3 hours.
Everything kicks back up ok when the mouse responds again.
If I was attacking right before the signal stops, it attacks till mouse is responding again.
I saw 3 other ppl on pubs have the same problem, one my clan.

Is it steam, is it the mouse.
What I know is thats its not really cool when it happens.

I first I taught it might be client side lastinv or 3jump script, but the other one from my clan is against scripts so thats not it.

I tried with 2 mouses, and installed drivers for em, multiple of em...still no

soooo!

    *pardon my hijacking*
i also have some mouse problems...
my mouse stops responding for a moment, but during that time of "inactivity" if i move the thing, a few seconds later it will react to those movements but in a jerky and often in a very deadly (NS terms) fashion...i often die due to my mouse stopping, and then all of a sudden pulling a 90 degree turn followed by a 180 completely disorienting me and resulting in yet another death...

    edit: optical mouse

If any of you are using nvidia driver check to make sure sure your desktop manager is disabled.

Control Panel > Nvidia Nview> Desktop Manager Tab.

I had this problem too along with sound problems, i have an A7N8X motherboard with nforce 2 chipset.
What i did was disabling material acceleration and i never had this problem again and now my computer run much better...

    run dxdiag.exe
go to the sound tab and you can disable it.
it worked for me at least.

Try putting hl.exe on a lower priority.

I have the same mouse problem.. its crazy. Also I have an ATI card so it couldn't have anything to do with nvidia problems. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I have the same problem.

I am using a cord mouse (as in not a cordless one). It is optical. I have the Nvidia Destop turned off, but the problem remains.

What does audio have to do with your mouse?

I have just started experiencing this problem. Its extremly annoying. I upgraded my graphics card from a GeForce 3 ti200 to a radeon 9800pro and the problems started. I have been playing ns since v1.0 with the GeForce and never had any problems but the second i installed the 9800pro i got this annoying bug. Possibly related to graphics card?

edit: Mouse logitech mx500 (wired, optical)

I have this problem as well but when my mouse freaks out I look straight up and do about 4 180 degree spins until my mouse suddenly regains control of itself.. My mouse is also an optical USB mouse with cords.

I run a nvidia geforce 5200 fx 128mb and desktop manager does run but I have played NS before with desktop manager in the background and never having these problems with a tradditional mouse.

yes I have the same problem where my mouse freezes for .5-1 second, it's sooo frustrating when it happens in a fight. It usually happens when I try to do a quick and fairly large mouse movement... like doing a 180 spin to kill someone behind me. It usually happens where the horizontal movement of the mouse is broken but I can still move it up and down... maybe a steam bug?

Is that why you get stuck so much as fade =P.

I too get this problem randomly ... Like, i'll be tracing a skulk, and my mouse will stop, and out of instinct I beat it off the mouse pad. It happens to me the most when I comm, or at least I notice it most when I comm.

Hmm, two of my clanmates have got this problem.
One of them told me it usually happens when there are enemies (or at least other players) nearby.

And it started with one of the last steam updates.

for me it is related to sound, it only happens when lot of sounds was played at the same time, it was not only freezing my mouse but my whole system :\

And I thought it just had something to do with my mouse being borkend =/

This problem has occurd since last steam update, but I'm not sure if it's on all the steam games.

Wireless optical mouse and radeon card (so not nvidia related).

*BUMP* Anyone figure out how to fix this yet?
  • God_KillerGod_Killer Join Date: 2004-02-16 Member: 26592Members
Looks like maybe to few ppl got this problem, I don't know if they'll take time to fix this...I opened my mouse up, everything was looking great. I played right after and I had no bug at all!!!

One hour later, the bug started again.

It's always when I'm in big action, when I press diferent keys fast in between.
    Especialy when I fade.

yeah, that appear since the 2 last steam upgrades i think; and for my, and my clanmate is only the mouse.
I have the same mouse 2 years ago, is optic with 0 problem.
Maybe a packet issue or something.

I had that very occasional "point staight up and twirl" very rarely. While searching someone suggested to turn off Antialiasing and Anisotropic settings in the vid card. Just played (not long maybe 1 hour) and didn't have a problem.

But again I could go days without this twirl occuring so I cant say it worked for me. Maybe in a couple of weeks.

Edit: BTW I have my mouse at 16 and it seemed even faster today! ( need it to chase those f-ing skulks running in circles)

exact same thing, happened in one of the steam updates as i had it working fine for months previously, then one update and i thought jesus dirt on the lense? spent 10 minutes attempting to clean but it was spotless.

happens alot with enemies, or turrets. and mainly as marines looking at other marines.

its scary as a fade when your trying to blink out though.

NF7-s onboard gfx/sound coz im lazy and cba to RMA my g/card
microsoft intelimouse 5.... or something like that :/

Steam issue which is known by Valve who are "working on a fix". The problem is infuriating and I've tried all the "fixes" I could find with no avail. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
