"Alien Swarm is an overhead view tactical squad-based shooter for UT2K4. Set in the the distant future, the players take the role of a Commander in the Interstellar Armed Forces. The space station top down view reminded me of the view (usually disastarous)occassions I am commander in NS.

Anyway, I strongly reccomend this mod to anyone here. The feel is rather similar to the movie Aliens. It's great because while its an action game, you control a squad of various marines that are different classes (medic etc) and there is basic inventory system (each marine can hold 2 large and 1 small pieces of equipment).

But anyway, I really like it because you can play the single player missions co-op with 8 ppl, which I am doing at a LAN later tonight.

    Intersting. How good are the marines? l337 vets or uber-noobs? Do they get better, or do you just buy them bigger guns?

    Umm, what makes you think this belongs in General? Put this in OTF.

    It has already been discussed there and I belive the thread was a couple of pages long.

    Search feature is your friend.

    Other than that, the game is pretty cool, you can beat it on your own which is way too easy. Best to play it with friends online like the people in the OTF section.

    I second the OTF.

    But anyways, this looks like a nice mod... a point goes in (1/100) towards buying UT2k4!

    Got this when it first came out (and there was an OT thread at the time, which is what keyed me into getting it) but found it unplayable due to lag. Not a single server gave me a playable ping. I may check it out again sometime to see if that situation is improved.

    Other problems: Friendly Fire that isn't toggleable, games can last upwards of 10 minutes and you only get one life, and you can't join a game except between maps, which means a LOT of spectating.

    Off-Topic would be the place for this, even if the intent of this post also qualifies somewhat as advertising, pretty outrightly.

    Given that there is already a thread existant there though, duplicates do not need to exist.
