I think Sierra would be the one to ask, not a bunch of people waiting to become wall climbing aliens.

Perhaps you need to make sure joystick is disabled. I think there's a command-line option you can use when running the game... something like hl.exe -nojoy (but I may be wrong, so find the correct code before you try it&#33.

wich Xp professional or home?

if its professional my friend had similar problems and had to switch to home.. Also try checking your win updates the one microsoft sends out every now and then that might fix it!

Did you upgrade straight from Windows 98 to Windows XP? If you don't choose to do a fresh install (or partition the drive and dual boot the system), some programs may lose stability. My recommendation would be to uninstall Half-life, and re-install it from scratch and update it, and see if that helps. If the same problem occurs, see if it happens during a single-player game, or during the Hazard course. Try and get as much information on the problem as possible, and then use those two links I posted on this thread earlier. Sierra should be able to help you, and you'll get the contact information once you go through the troubleshooter.

One other option, if you have plenty of hard drive space to spare, would be to partition off part of the drive, and install Windows 98 on that partition, only to run Half-life.

Hope this helps you!

This is the exact same problem I got when I upgraded. It starts normal but a time lag builds up right? Unfortantatly I can't remember the fix but it had something to do with my video settings. What it seemed like to me was that it was making more frames than the FPS, like it was making twenty FPS but only running at 15 FPS, extra frames built up until after 5 min it was completly unplayable. Nasty stuff, update your drivers. If nothing else works try a reinstall.

Doh. It's an obvious one, but I forgot to mention it. Windows XP uses different drivers than Windows 98, as it's a different format. Make sure all your drivers are up to date, especially your video card drivers. Give us the card, and we can probably point you in the direction of the proper driver.

I seem to also be having a problem with half life and my mouse.
Once upon a time a year or so ago i started a lan game to practice in tfc for jumps, and mouse stopped responding. restarted, mouse wasnt recognized.
Called Gateway tech supported, was told to reformat. Also was shipped another mouse free of charge (when i tried the broken mouse at a friends, it didnt work either). After reinstalling everything and good ole half-life, my mouse occasionally stops responding, the server lags off (i cant type or anything to actually say an expletive, my mouse stopped working again)and have to reboot. Also, sometimes after playing half life/hl mod, then playing Red alert 2, mouse stops responding. This problem persisted through that first reformat, so im wondering if anyone has encountered this problem before and could tell me how to deal with it. Thanks
