To Steam Or Not To Steam

<div class="IPBDescription">Do I need Steam To play on LAN</div> <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> OK Guys, I <b>DO</b> know this sounds <b>Stupid </b>to you to say the least, BUT is there a way for me to <b>awoid </b>downloading steam (<b>another </b>200-something MB) cus' I only wanna play on LAN (we have a small network running). And I CAN'T install NS v3beta without receiving a message that I don't have the proper steam installed. So is there a way to ignore "Mr. Steam" and simply install it.......?.........you wouldn't hit a man with glasses would you? <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo--> Please answer!
