<div class="IPBDescription">Without connecting to steam?</div> I mean, do I have to connect to the internet EVERY time to play with the guy next to me (does that option even exist in v3.0 beta.x). WHAT is the EASIEST way to establish a LAN connection - <b>Can it be done? </b><!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

For steam you just have to login via internet once... Once your login is completed your game will be ready for OFFLINE play... If you just close steam by choosing exit (NOT exit & logout) then your login info will be kept at that machine and you wont need to login again for Offline play... Therefore you can play LAN forever without need of internet connection...
But remember that your login info will be kept; so anyone using that computer can access your Steam account...
Have Fun...
No.
The steam ID ticket system means that loging in with PC2 will cause the first ticket to expire.
Ah, but hang on, how does PC1 "know" htat this ticket has expired. Hmm. I dunno. I'd have to test it. Give me a mo.
EDIT:
I think it will work, but my bro's c**** PC just causes NS to crash. It logs in on both PCs sucessfully though, and the 1st PC can start a server that shows up in LAN games. Sorry I could not help any further.
With the 2nd PC having no internet access? That's pretty neat. Ticket stealing. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
you copied it to a WON install of HL, yes?
yah, that was the way of olaying NS3.0 on a LAN before the implemented lan play for steam.
warinings:
1) There is a chance that there will be glitches (As the HL code has changed alot between WON and Steam)
2) You can't play between a won install and a Steam install (they both have to be the same)
but yah, if you don't want to bother with steam then jusyt install vanilla HL on the first comp and move the nsp dir there.
Edit:
Or not, see below. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Has any1 tryed to play like this? Is the game still the same as the steam version or is there something different??
I just want to play it over the LAN but steam just doesn't make it easy... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
No, i moved nsp from <b>steam/steamApps/hl</b>to another computer (<i>does not have steam installed-no internet connection</i>) via LAN
So gameplay will remain the same?

The game play is the same as the folder with all game paly details is the same. Only the "core" code for networking, menus and the like is different.
Manual:
<a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/manual_version_2/Natural_Selection_Manual_Framed.html' target='_blank'>http://www.natural-selection.org/manual_ve...ual_Framed.html</a>
I played ns (one installed with steam and copyed to WON version of hl <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) with my friends on LAN and it works perfectly... <b>No glitches</b>.... whoahaha!!!
And i wanted to ask you how can i see what version of ns is installed? As you can see from my previous posts i am <b>not</b> playing steam version (only want to play it over LAN - <i>read: slow internet connection</i> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> -but some day... who knows) so when i go on <b>CUSTOM GAME </b> on hl is says Natural selection v3.0 beta. So how can i know if beta 4 & 4a are installed?
Sorry for all those noob questions... We all have to start some time... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
you managed to run a game with peopel connecting using different versions of HL? (as the person using the Steam client would have had a newer version of HL then the person running the WON install)
that shouldn't be possible, posibly I am mis understanding what you said...
As for knowing what version you have installed...
not sure aside from remembering what you have installed.
that combined with error messages when trying to join a server with a known version...
