-Start offline mode when promted after failed connect
-click on servers, you can see your fav and your history
* cannot see the internet servers tab, but all others work
You could join servers and play, though most were empty because so few people could get on and play...
That sucks, we paid for the god damn game and they can't keep up a good smooth system that doesn't get raped everytime they change something...

I am getting this on Steam Forums:
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
keep in mind that steam does not work.
Unfortunately, that page too, while it's not completely down, hasn't been updated for a while. Current GMT time is 22:26, but the page says it hasn't been updated since 22:59 GMT, whatever that means.
I feel that Sunday afternoons should be spent playing NS and not doing anything else, and I NEEED some page to constantly reload to check if NS is up yet.
If you're like me, but don't want to help out take down all the half life forums, just go to your start menu, select Run, and type one of these lines in:
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->ping -w 1 -t steam1.steampowered.com
ping -w 1 -t steam2.steampowered.com<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
Once Steam comes back up, it should start saying something like:
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->Reply from 207.173.177.11: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=52<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
Until then, we can sit here and cry.
(note that the server addresses above are the same ones that are noted in "C:\Program Files\Steam\config\masterservers.vdf" on my computer... the steam status page alludes to other servers as well, so there may be alternate ones your computer is trying to contact)
Why on earth you would log on to a MOD's site to see why steam isn't working for all games is beyond me anyways.
No... Anything that has a deep impact on Natural Selection, and isn't quite so broad as to be something like "the Internet is collapsing" or "the world is coming to an end", should be discussed in General Discussion, because that's about the only spot where almost everyone goes.
Also, just because someone has a problem and discusses it in General, doesn't at all mean they're blaming our beloved devs. For example "xxx segment of the NS community is really annoying, any suggestions on how to deal with them?". Or "Planet Half Life Disses Ns". or a million other things that regularly show up.

PSHB is a mod specific bug, steam screwing up for a couple hours is niether mod specific, nor a bug. In addition, steam screwing up has nothing to do with HL code, and will full access to even the closed sourse HL engine variables, the NS team could do absolutly nothing about steam screw ups.
Notice that both your examples include functions or issues that directly relate to something NS devs or NS players can control? Steam functionality is an issue much like any other steam independent feature, it has nothing to do with NS, and thus does not belong in the NS general discussion forum. Considering that the OT forum is the more or less the second largest active NS forum section, I don't see why it should be an issue that non-NS related things are moved to the forum dedicated to non-NS related things.
Though the Mods have stoped posting that line ("we are not the steam forum") I assume it still stands.
oh, and XCan, remember, bought a licence for the software of HL. You did NOT buy the right to use thier servers (that is a free service provided for us, that could be removed at any point in time if they felt like it, so don't complain)
oh, and side note, other forum policy, if you have issues with forum policy, take it up with a mod ( PM the, they WILL respond, and they won't bite, well... exept MonsE, but he aint around that much)
A whee bit of a microsoft type screwing were getting there eh <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
no I am stating a fact.
I could have said it as all you bought was the game, you didn't buy the use of their servers (but that is technicaly incorect as what you actualy bought was a licence)
Said licence is ALSO what gives you the RIGHT to copy a game/music/video (fair use laws, as well as you are alowed to creat backups of licenced media that you have)
<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
HOWEVER, mods need to understand that there are gray areas and such black-and-white rules don't always easily apply to human interaction.
In this case, it was was an important new issue that very much affected every single NS forums reader. If it had turned into yet-another-Steam-sucks-thread, then yes, kill it. As it was though, it was just a "ho hum, wish I could be playing NS right now, but I'll hang out on NS forums instead" thread.
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1--> <!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
Also, the main point of the thread was "Is this something I've screwed up with my NS install, or is this a Steam-general thing that we all have to just wait out?". While the thread progressed from there, this was a question that many people vising the NS forums were going to be asking, and it would have been good to leave that information in a semi-visible place until the problems went away.
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1--> <!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
For the record, <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76081' target='_blank'>current analysis</a> seems to indicate that the PSHB bug *IS* a half-life-wide bug. That topic is still, and should continue to be, discussed in the General forum (as long as the threads continue to contain new information that most NS forum readers would be interested in).
