Server List Doesnt Download Servers

Ok, Ive had NS for about a year now, so my friend thought it was cool to get it also. He downloaded all the beta 3, patch 4, patch 4a stuff and it shows up on his 3rd party games. But when he trys to browse through the servers, no servers pop up, and hes sure he has no filters on. Also, I gave him IPs to my favorite servers, and when he tries to join those, he says it just keeps trying to connect, then it disconnects, retrys, and keeps doing that.

Any suggestions on how you could fix this? Hes reinstalled the game 2, Steam once, and has been tweaking around trying to find the problem with out success.

First up smack him and tell him to register, it is REALY a pain to go through some one else to do tech help.

I will post the install guide at the bottom, make sure all was folowed (mainly, you don.t need a beta 3 installer, you need the beta 1, beta 4, and beta 4a)

    As for server problems:
    1) Make sure that there are no filters (just friken double check)
    2) can he play other games via Steam?
    3) Make sure his net connection is working.
    4) Make sure you gave him the port and the IP (aka 127.0.0.1:1234)

    yah, thats that for now

well, he got it working on his laptop, but on his desktop its still not doing it right. Ill ask him about the filters again tonight, because I know he can do everything else (Connect to internet, play CS, gave right port, etc)

    Ok ok ok

Yes I can play other Steam game, CS usually.

What happens is however, it will give me the Connection screen, then Retrying Connection, Retrying Connection (2)....you get the idea, until I disconnect. I'm not running any firewalls or material for that.

iii think you might have to delete clientregistry.blob, it has a lot of bugs, you'll have to restart steam afterwards. if this doesnt help, contact steam forums.

I deleted that blog file, but nothing happened.

Consequently, I connected to a server with my Internet Security going, and pushed through the setting to allow HL access to the net. After that, I'm able to connect to the servers. I'll just have to keep an eye on it incase it does it again. I normally close out of Internet Security due to it lagging me out, but I didn't know that it still keeps programs from accessing the net even being closed out. So thus far, it's been working.

if you have nortons anti virus <-- big problem with ns.

turn it off before you access hl. and keep your firewall up.
