Ns Is Not A Clone!

It has been stated over and over by forum veterans to noobs that NS is not a clone of Starcraft, AVP, or the similiar. NS is a thing of its own and doesn't need features like acid blood and all this other game(s) material to be fun. A Skulk is in no way a "Zerg" simply because NS is not related to starcraft. The suggestion and ideas forum is great for ideas but lets try to make ORIGINAL ideas. For one I would feel a bit dissapointed if my original idea towards a mod was pushed over by a common reference to another game or already thoughtup idea taken from some popular game. In other words giving something a name that it is not. Thats like calling a corvette a mustang. I don't know why exactly but this stupid thing aggrivates me as that there will always be those new to the game who just craves something from another game that inspired them. I also do realize that some of the people joining on these forums are younger than I am and they may not think the way I do or they just don't realize that NS tries to be different. Aside from the fact that there are many "alien" featured movies, books, and games in our lives.

Maybe its just me but I feel like our race is becoming unnoriginal. But then again, what is original?
Am I wrong for posting this. I feel like I want to defend NS's originality and creativity.

Hurry, slip out the back way while we still have time, the Gloom fanatics come!

On topic, I agree this mod is very original. If you think otherwise your opinion is wrong.

Ns ... influenced by... starcraft/aliens.... inspired by ... science fictions novels..... inspired by .... dreams and visions....
Cars ... inflenced by... carrages... inspired by... horses......
    etc... etc..

Every great idea has roots in past ideas... IT DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE THE SAME THING.

Tolkien created a concrete vison of elves, dwarves, goblins.... but you dont see poeple calling everquest, legend, other fantasy movies... just CLONES

    I dunno,

I keep expecting to see Gene stealers from Space Hulk (minatures game) come rushing out.. Even if that is what the Fades remind me of (without the extra set of arms. ). Or even Kryomek (another minatures game)

    Take care all

This is what I say, to keep it simple

Tolkien is the God, he **obscenity** created it, gave it shape, gave it life, GAVE IT EVERYTHING

_You_ can not touch Tolkien, and MonsE and Flayra, are the Tolkien's of the HL Modification World

As far as Gloom, and StarCraft, and the reference someone told me to how you could do level changing through a system other then menu's back in Quake 2 or something, I don't care, NS is a wonderful creation, just that, a creation, not a clone or a rip

Oh wait, everyone who writes about anything Fantasy style is ripping off from Tolkien right? And Startrek and StarWars had to have some ripping in their right? I mean come on, ITS SPACE! O M G THEY BOTH HAVE LASERS AND GIGANTIC SHIPS! THIEVES!

    ....

Nothing is really original, everything is inspired by something.

Tolkien didn't invent Elves or Dwarves, but he was familiar with northern and greek mythology. He was original because he wrote a book in a style no one else had used before.

Sure, the skulk reminds one of a zergling, but it they aren't identical, so it's not a clone. NS is original because it combines the game mechanics of other games to create an unique gameplay experience, not because it invented those mechanics or the idea of humans fighting non-humans.

An original game is a game that plays different, not looks different.

If you ask me, I would say :

An Onos strongly resembles a Zerg Ultralisk, not in appearance, but as in the role, except for its Primal Rage(or was it Primal Scream?) ability.

Lerk's Umbra Mist strongly resembles a toned down version of the Zerg Deflier's Dark Swarm.

Lerk's Gas Spores kinda resembles a toned down version of the Zerg Deflier's Plague.

    At lastly,
    IMO,
Natural Selection is a Real Time Strategy Game with heavy zone control elements in it, except that it is played out in 1st person mode, and each of the units are controled by invididual players.

*is a Gloom fanatic but refuses to argue about it anymore* I'll just convert maps from Gloom to NS, since they're so similar the maps will work, and I could add on to them to make'em bigger..

But its a fps, thats not an original idea. Not every idea has to be original. If you look at that old overview thing that was on some post it says that they were thinking of putting acid blood in. Maybe they couldnt get it to be implamented in a good way or at all (which i doupt).

ppl give out ideas of acid blood and stuff because its cool, if you want it to be totaly original then it shouldnt have all the weapons it has, teleporting pads, collecting resources to build stuff and some others.

Oh and i think Necro was joking

In my arguements, my main points have been that NS is exactly like Gloom + about 3 or 4 new features, but I also say not being original is not bad, NS is a good game and owns Gloom, but the 2 games are extremely similar, and you can't argue that unless you have played Gloom for atleast a month.

Don't make me list the hundreds of new features - I need my lunch hour. Commander mode alone is about 80 new features...

It would just get ugly, and I would start going on about how Gloom ripped off team fortress (9 classes that match up very closely to start). I was playing TF since most of you were in lower grade school.

Someone mentioned genestealers and SpaceHulk and such... To anyone who ever played that game, wouldnt it be sweety to have some maps with missions akin to thoose missions... I know im being a bit of a knob asking for gameplaymodes taken from spacehulk in a topic about how NS is really original but as i said... it would be sweet..

Not that im boored with NS as it is right now, just imaganing how to expand the gameplay.

For anyone who doesnt know, SpaceHulk has indeed a lot of things in common with the world of NS. The missions were usually about boarding great ol hulks of spaceships (hence the name) to just exterminate the alien presance, blow something up and get out Fast or retreat from infested vessels.

One nice way to make something like this in NS could be having the marine team spawning with limited resources and weapons, and having the aliens spawn as ither skulk or lerk. Marine team with a commander (No Commcenter to protect, though) have a specific task to perform, and the aliens try to stop them. as maines are killed, they spawn as aliens (No CS waiting)....

Just something id like to see some day... no rush... Can rules like theese be put into a map or is this a whole new ballgame? any mappers know?

Anyways, just an idea triggerd by old memories about cardboardsheets with tiny plastic figures on them and a lots and lots of rulebooks
