Ive been playing ns via steam for some time now (since the first beta, and b4 that on WON )(NS 2.01)
But 1 day ago my pc crashed, and needless to say, after reinstalling my system (windows XP) I installed halflfie, updated it, and downloaded steam (with CS cache) and also got NS 3.1 (and the patch(s) for 3.2 and 3.3)
But when I try to install NS 3.1, it says this:
<b>STEAM with proper ThirdParty mod support not installed</b>
can any tell me what I need, or forgot?
Ive also used the searh function, or I just forgot something small (or HUGE)
I had NS 3.3 beta on my system a few days ago, and in the time I installed the Beta 1, all worked fine.
Help would be nice, thank you ^__^

that is what that error msg is saying.
IF you have, make sure you restarted steam/rebooted your comp after this.
I ran into the same issue as well after my last reinstall. To fix make sure you give Steam enough time to download its full core fileset. The easiest way to do this is just to install another mod or Half Life selection. Trying to install NS too soon after installing Steam for the first time will produce this error.
Just give it time and verify status via the in Steam monitor.
oh, and the error is caused by not playing HL through steam atleast once (aka having HL installed and updated)
