Hey do you guys think these are good prices?


Video Card - GeForceFX 5700 128Mb - $170

    No on the FX5700. I can get one for 99.-.

    The Athlon I'm not too sure on, but its not a stunning price for sure. Recently saw a 2800+ with Motherboard for 130.

    The video card should be selling for around $30-$40 less.

    The cpu price looks about right.

    If you are spending or going to spend nearly $200 for a video card, I suggest trying and finding the cheapest new one that is good that you can find. If you search around a bit, you can probably find a 5900 or a 9800 since ya know, there are new cards on the market and people want them now... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> Just search a bit more, when you feel you have found what you want, add a rather small (to you) amount of money to that amount and try to see if you can find something better for that amount. I'd say $30 for a card that is only a year old at the most is a good deal. Try <a href='http://www.pricewatch.com' target='_blank'>Pricewatch</a>, I have found quite a few good deals on there.

    As a matter of fact, since you are looking to get an XP for a Duron board, for a few more bucks on pricewatch, you can probably find a good combo for ya. The question is are you up to the mess of installing a new MOBO and CPU? But as for the price, that isn't too bad. Just compare on that site, you may find a good bargin, just remember though, if it sounds like the deal may be sleazy, it may be a good idea to look the other way and try to find something else either less powerful or a bit more money.

    Meh I wouldn't bother having them install it. At least not the graphics card. Installing (AMD) processors can be scary, especially when you start bending the mobo to get the stupid clips from the heatsink on.

    The processor is a good price but the video card is a no. Go to TigerDirect, Newegg or Microcenter they have really good prices.

    I've heard some horror stories about TigerDirect, but NewEgg is awesome.

    For instance you can get that FX5700 for $95 from NewEgg

    Or a FX5900XT for 181. that's waht I got.

    if you mean the amd 64 it will ,yes, run half life on it

    and there are the LE editions which are quite a bit cheaper but i am not sure what LE stands for i assumed it was like ATI's SE which you should stay away from (pipelines go from 8 to 4 when moving down to second edition, which is a bad thing)

    Um all you have to do is open then case, unscrew old card, pop it out, replace with new, screw it in, close case, install drivers/update. It's almost as easy as adding more RAM.

    If you've never done anything like that before, I suggest looking up some basic do's/don'ts on the internet, like don't rub your feet on the carpet and then touch something expensive.

    That cpu isnt too impressive. you can the barton core version from newegg for around the same price - 512k cache instead of 256k. do not get the 5700 its a very poor performer. get the 5900nu and up for nvidia or if you wanna go with ati get the 9800 pro and up- just be prepared to put up w/driver glitches.
