<div class="IPBDescription">Geforce 3 Ti 500</div> I just noticed the other day that since I began playing 3.0 my fps has gotten a lot worse.
Back in the 1.04 and 2.0 days I always would have a constant 100 fps, but now it varies between 65-100. Does anyone have any tips that could help me out?

Also, search the forums for settings that can help squeak better performance out of your computer (namely, console variables). I know that quite a few have been posted before around here, the tech support forums, and maybe the new player forums. You might have had those settings active in previous versions, but you forgot to activate them in the newer versions.
I've got to say, getting a constant 100fps out of a Geforce3 is pretty impressive. It is the Half-life engine, but Natural-selection pushes it.
But yeah, semi-psychotic speaks the truth. Besides, the human eye can't see past 60 frames per second.
fps_limit 60 will do the trick, or vary between it.

Were you on WON before going to 3.0?
it is three generations behind now

Best thing that happened to nVidia since the TNT2s...then they started going downhill but they're near the top now with their 6800GT.
Edit:
Fine, let me amend my statement.
It is impossible to tell the difference in fps 60 and up.

Yeah, mostly, but I got 100 fps in steam 2.01 and cs 1.6..
Edit: Also, are you experiencing the drops near smoke (i.e Particle System)? For me it LAGS LIKE HELL.
are you kidding? I can *easily* notice when my fps drops from 100 to 60 when a few guys come on my screen. Playing NS with 60 fps sucks..

Still, a GeForce 3 is more than capable of handling Half-Life.
I would have to agree with Semi-Psychotic, you likely have installed many more programs on your computer since you last played v1.x. I would suggest defragmenting your hard drive and run some checks for spyware. Make sure your drivers for all your equipment is up to date as well.
No noticable drop near smoke or other particles.
I just defragged, Im gonna use a regcleaner for my registry and scan for spyware (very unlikely I have any though), any more tips?
sorry, still wrong
I have to play NS with 20 fps.
Bleh, I don't care about fps anymore, you're right, I guess.
I would insert an EXTREMELY shocked smiley face right about here, but there aren't any that will convey this emotion.
I'm not making fun of you, by any means: the regcleaner is something that I never knew existed on my Win98 machine until I stumbled upon it while scanning for spyware. However, that only fixed 116 problems (which is still a lot). But 2.5k is just... wow.
I get the feeling that it's going to help, at least slightly.
I never get spyware, <3 firefox
