<div class="IPBDescription">it keeps pausing in all games... :(</div>Please read up on my issue on the HardOCP forums:
<a href='http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=788176' target='_blank'>http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=788176</a>
Basically, my video card keeps stuttering every 3 seconds or so in everys ingle game except doom 3, and that's only if i turn the vsync off. w/ vsync on even doom3 stutters. but regardless of vsync setting every other game i have stutters horribly :( :( :(
I've tried drivers and swapping a power supply w/ a 400w one and etc, nothing works. :(
Does anyone have any ideas on advice (again, please read the above thread to get a full grasp on the situation)

So what's the problem again? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
(You knew someone was going to say it...)
Seriously though, unfortunatly I can't help you with your issue and the only advice I can give you is the basics:
<this is where I told you to do a bunch of stuff and then read your link and editted>
RMA
I can only think of 2 things that may help.
1: Bump up your PSU to 450w. I know that sounds
abit unneeded but my 9800 Pro practically <b>demands</b>
upwards of 450w or it starts throwing fits and restarting my comp.
I eventually got a 470w PSU with a 12cm on the underside of it
and things have been great since.
2: Download NVHard and see if you can disable Fast-Write.
<a href='http://download.guru3d.com/nvhardpage/' target='_blank'>--> Get it Here <--</a>
NVHard is something all nVidia card users should have
because of the vast amount of new options it opens.
Quick Edit:
Did you format your machine before throwing the new card in?
I know that it's very really needed but something might be conflicting.
Good luck Doomy.
I have a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 that I've sent in 3 times and it has never worked more than 3 days. Like I said...<b>Nvidia SUCKS.</b>

My 9800 pro runs dandy with my 350W power supply, although your 6800GT will suck alot more than a 9800 pro...
<Ultra obvious> you have checked all the wire connections to make sure everything is firmly in place right?
Doesn't omega drivers support Nvida cards now? probably one of the custom drivers out there can get you a better set of options in terms of fastwrite and whatnot...
<Ultra obvious 2> latest version of direct X? I had to reinstall DX when I got my 9800...
And if the card is overclocked, it could be the cause.
there's no way the thing requires more than a 400w power supply. The box for every 6800 lists a 300w power supply as the min required, and when i had the 300w in there it ran the exact same as it does now...
card isn't overclocked either...
i'll try updating to dx9c.. :/

The 6800's were DESIGNED to use two molex connectors, and a 480 watt power supply (bare minimum). However, now they recommend a minimum 350 watt, and that's assuming you don't have any other power hogs. If your core voltages are fluctuating, that could be causing the instability.
God, that sentence is sexy...
since you've posted. Are you happily plodding away
on Doom 3 now or have you slipped into a coma caused
by frustration?
Wakey wakey, this isn't a geforce fx, the card is fine(except this particular specimen I guess).
Few years ago it was no problem, but now it is.
In those cases i suggest the most extreme "solution", reformating your HD.
If this doesn't help change the card for a new one.

Just bump up the power supply. They had the EXACT same problem(except oddly, it was mainly with D3), and the power supply was the problem at Gamespy.
Here's the article:

For the past two days, I've been having issues getting DOOM 3 running smoothly on my main gaming rig: an Alienware 3.0 Ghz machine with 1GB RAM and a GeForce 6800 video card. The problem: in certain locations, the game drops from a crisp 60 frames per second to a mind-boggling 4-5 FPS. All my drivers were updated, so I wasn't sure what the problem was, and simply shifted my playtesting to my other 3.0 Ghz machine outfitted with a GeForce FX 5950 (which has been running great). Needless to say, I've been kind of bummed that I haven't gotten the game running on my best machine.
After some poking around, it looks like I've got the problem solved. Part I: the 6800 requires two power inputs, and -- after getting a system notice that my card wasn't getting enough power -- I switched around some power cables inside the machine, under the assumption that the Y-splitter I was using might have been the culprit. Part II: I'm running two monitors off the 6800, so I'm disabling the second monitor while playing DOOM 3. The result: I'm now playing at 1024x with 4xAA and the system barely dips below 50FPS. Woot!

I was asleep. :P
hmm...
The power supply thing sounds like it might be it, but I just dunno. I'll take this 400w back and pick up an antech 450 I guess...

Get the highest you can get within your budget.
For 2 main reasons:
1: Just to be on the safe side. 470w PSU never hurt anyone
2: It'll greatly help narrow the causes of your problem down
Good luck!
two power supplies and another video card later, I find it was the card that was defective after all.
The good news is CompUSA had the PNY 6800GT's in stock, so I grabbed one and it works fine as far as I can tell!
I also now have a 420w Enermax psu. I guess I don't really need it since it was the card all along, but I like it and its quieter than my old PSU, so I'll keep it. At 420 watts and hearing that a 350w runs like 8 hard drives no problem, I expect to never need another PSU ever again. :P
So you got all those goodies for nothing XD

So, your DOOM 3 experiance is running at PWN++ now?
Oh well. I'm only $100 over budget... and considering i didn't get the 3.06ghz cpu after all, all is well...

Here is a little trick I learned back in high school with my network teacher. Look at the minimum and reccomended requirements and find the middle ground in between them. Then multiply that by 2 and then add a quarter of the new total and that should do it.
400-300=100/2=50+300=350x2=700*.25=175+700=875. There ya go.
I didn't say was economical or anything, you're just guranteed that something will work if you do that. Of course it can be said that my teacher had a loathing of engineers and thought they were mindless idiots that could be replaced with monkeys and usually get everything wrong...
