NS Marine Story
Team Siege

Chapter 1: All Alone

“Ahhh, ****! We are getting rushed!” A marine yelled over the radio.
So I then run to their location, Sewers. When I got there I found dead skulks and marines all around…I was the last one to survive. I tried to ask the ‘Com’ what had happened, but there was no reply…I soon relised I was all alone, so I then inspected the bodies to see if any one was alive. I checked all most all the bodies, and I found no one alive. Then suddenly I heard a voice. “Help...me…” So I ran over to the marine, he was still alive but barely holding on. “What happened? Are there any more survivors?” I said.
“Help…me…ahh..ahh…”, they were his last words then he died. I felt so alone and afraid, asking my self so many questions that I couldn’t think straight. So I headed back to base, if there still was one.

“****” I yelped. I tripped over something, so I looked around and I didn’t see anything so I kept on walking. “Ahh” I yelled again. I again looked around, still nothing…This was begging to freak me out, so I held my gun getting ready to fire. Then I again tripped on something, it was really **** me off. I did remember reading about these things that make aliens invisible, so I began thinking…Ah yes, it said they were called ‘Sensory Chambers’, and the only way to see them and things hidden by them was to attack it. So I pulled out my knife, because I was running low on ammo and a knife would make less noise. I started walking around slicing the air, then I hit something and it started to become visible. Then I heard this noise from behind me…I froze. I was so freaking freaked out, but I knew they only way I would be getting out of this is to try and kill whatever was there. So I slowly turned around, with my gun ready to shoot…”****!!!” I screamed….

“Addicted, shut the **** up! We are trying to sleep” Said Colost, another marine in my team.
“Ahhh, what the hell? Did I die, am I in hell?” I asked.
”Yes Addicted, Your in hell if that’s what you want to call it, now go to sleep before I get Terri to **** the bed” He said sarcastically.
“I don’t pee the bed, um…. I was drinking water that time” Terri said. He sounded to embarrassed.
“Aright, Aright I am going to sleep”. I lied, I didn’t want to go back to sleep, that dream freaked the hell out of me, and I am still in shock from it. I was covered in sweat, so I used my blanket to wipe it off.

After sitting there looking up at the top bunk for 4 hours waiting to get out the way just in case Terri does **** the bed. Then over the loud speaker a voice said “Please report to the mission briefing room”. It kept on saying that until every one was awake. “Good morning guys, how ya’ll sleep?” said Donald, another person in our team. “It was good, until Colost and Addicted woke me up” said Terri
“Addicted was screaming from his ‘nightmare’ last night, what a freaking ****. Oh and Terri woke me up after, he was changing his sheets for some reason” Colost said after a series of coughs.
“I did not! Liar!” Terri said, taking Colost serious.
“Shut up both of you, Save that anger for the Kharaa” said Donald.

Chapter 2: Infection

We entered the mission briefing room. Looks like we were late, because everyone else was there.
“So you decided to come?” Said Cpt.Leong. I didn’t like him much, mostly because he acted like a smart **** all the time. “Yes we have, now will everyone stop looking at us?” Colost said. He never really cared what people thought of him. So we all sat down in our usual seating positions.

“’Now that you’re all here, we can start.’ A3CV7, a civilian ship of scientists has sent out a distress beacon saying they need help because the Kharaa have been sighted on the ship, and 2 lives have been lost…This transmission was sent only a few hours ago, So we would think they would still be alive. Now, Rachael your team can secure the res. Steve half of your team can stay at base and build, the other half go with Colosts team to take down the hive or hives…Any questions?”. The Captin always had us all confused, even on simple things like this, I think it was just the way he talked. “Who will com?” Said Terri. “Steve will be the com for this mission” Cpt.Leong replied. There was a silence…Colost then broke it by saying “Aright, Team lets get to the phase gate”. Then everyone started talking, and followed us to the Phase.

“Terri you go first” I said.
“Why me?” he replied.
“Because no one likes you and it wont matter if you die” Colost said.
“Shut up faggot, I will go because I am the brave one” Said Terri. That really made him sound like a nubcaek. So he went through, we waited for a few seconds, and he said over the radio “It’s all clear, go go go”. So I went through, and shortly after Colost came through, then everyone else.

Steve entered the ‘Com Chair’ and built an IP and an Amoury. “Colost, Terri, Addicted and Donald. Wait with my team here for a few minutes and I will get a few shotties.” Said Steve. So we waited, Rachael’s team was already gone getting us res. I wished I was in Rachael’s team because she is so nice and I kinda like her. Anyways, 3 shotties came down. “Is that all?” I asked.
“Yes, we cant afford any more, sorry guys” Steve said. We stood there deciding who should get a shottie.
“Addicted your good with a shottie so you can have one, Terri you suck…Donald is good so he gets one, So that leaves me out aswel. Oh and others on Steves team…You two can decide who gets one.” Said Colost.

“Proceed to way point” Said Steve. So we started walking to our way point. The air was cold around these parts, and it was dark. Drips of water and pipes rattling kept us in shooting position.

“Guys did you just heard that?” Terri said.
“Hear what?” I said. Then we heard noise that sounded like a splat.
“That” He replied. I began feeling weird, I checked my health and it was slightly lower.
“Um…Guys, look in-front, at that vent.” Mike from Steve’s team said. So we all gazed our eyes over to the vent. Guess what we saw? A ‘Skulk’ sitting there looking straight at as trying to ‘parasite’ us. “Guys, shoot that skulk on the count to 3, Ready? 1…2….3-“ Mike was cut off by gun fire. The ‘Skulk’ was slow to react and its green blood was splattered all over the wall, and it’s what seem to be dead body feel out of the vent…

What do you guys think?

Chapter 3: All Hell Breaks Loose

It had been only a few seconds since we killed that skulk and already we could here more. “Com, we have incoming skulks, can you do a scan of this area for us?” I asked. After a few moments of waiting, playing with my gun I got a reply. “Yes. Sorry for the late reply, I was just waiting for more res.” He said.
He started the scan. There were blue ripples hovering the ground around us, and a beeping noise. Then we saw 3 Kharaa show up on the motion tracker.

They were trying to ambush us, because of the scan we had an advantage.
One by one, the three Kharaa, which seemed to be skulks jumped out. We all began shooting frantically, bullets just missing the skulks. Then one jumped onto my leg and took a bite. Its teeth went in so far, I could instantly feel the pain rise up. My blood was going fast and I was close to fainting. Then Colost saved me, he pulled out his handgun and put 5 bullets into the skulk that was on my leg. The pain became worse because the skulk’s teeth came out of my leg, and more blood was coming out. “I need a med-pack stat!” Said Colost. Then suddenly a med-pack dropped from above.

I began feeling better now, my health went up most of the way, and my leg was healing. “You ok Addicted?” Said Colost. That was probably the nicest thing he had done for me. “Yes I am, thanks man!” I happily replied. I thought he might have started to change, and become nicer until he replied, “Haha, you suck so bad! As if you couldn’t kill it you ****!” After he said that, it made me feel bad and I was thinking to myself. Have I lost my skill? But there was no time for waling in self-pity, there were still two skulks left. So I picked up my shot-gun, and pumped pellets into the last two skills. One was splattered against the wall, and the other was everywhere.

“Lets move” I said. I felt better now, like my skill came back. Every one was just looking at me in amazement, until Terri said “Nice freaking shot man!” Then every one laughed, it was a ‘Good on ya mate’ laugh.

So we continued, we went through a small passage one by one, because it was only wide enough for one. After traveling though the passage I could here a baby crying near by, and a woman saying “shh…it’s ok”. So we decided to go check it out. We looked around and we could see no one, so I yelled out “Hello? Anyone here?”. Then a door opened to the left corner of my eye, so I looked over and a civilian woman came out, covered in grease and blood. “Are you the TSA?” She said. He voice was soft, and had a sound of relief to it.
“Yes we are mam.” Said Donald…

Bah, loose is a nice word, your marines are more like uneducated "girly men" pansies whose basic training involved tea parties and changing their own diapers.

    And please...

QUOTE

my health went up most of the way

maybe in-game that could happen, but generally a soldier isn't able to rank his medical status as a percentage.

That could go either way: The manual refers to "The Sterkman Point System" in which they rank a Marine's health as 100, and they base attacks and other things on points.

Should we really care anyway? This is his story, as odd as it may be...Addicted will write the way he wants to write. Remember, 'constructive criticism', not just pointing out how you think things should be.

In this case too, you have to remember that the Frontiersman Manual is also the game manual, and gives descriptions of things like armor points and research cost that are intended to explain gameplay rather then the game world. By all accounts there's nothing wrong with dropping into the game, it just struck me as odd to see anyone "ranking" their health seeings as in reality, health is a very hard concept to define. Your "health" in relation to injury is based on a number of characteristics including blood loss, debilitating trauma to an area, body size, level of shock due to blood loss and the individuals ability to mentally decide they want to survive or carry on. Since this very greatly by individual and is partially characterized by some relatively unmeasurable factors, it's unexpected to see health as a number.

As to how you want to portray your marines, that's absolutely up to you and I wouldn't question that right. However, again that attitude is fine for maybe untrained civilians, but if the TSA is filled with battle hardened wimps than it doesn't really give them much of a chance.
    Critisim - Opinion, absolutely.

    It's all down to nanites!
  • Blinx_FuryBlinx_Fury Join Date: 2004-02-02 Member: 25986Members
I can understand why you would collaborate about health points and such, but keep in mind this IS a sci-fi piece, and in the future we have flying cars and aliens who want to eat our children, and I think it IS possible to have a health ranking system, like Soul Rider said, it all comes down to nanites, ultra tiny super thinking machines that assess your bodies limitations. Now if you are in the field and your health is at '10' chances are your missing a limb or some other severe injury has occurd, and no ammount of 'med packs' can fix you. But for the sake of writing and imagination, give it a little lee-way.
