Commander Bindset!

Use the numpad to build things!
Okay, I spent another hour, and used my hotkey listing to put together a set of binds to use the numpad as a set of commander hotkeys. You won't need the mouse to pick things anymore!
There were problems, though. For one, you can't have a hotkey command in an alias, or it doesn't work. So you can't change to the equip menu and get a health pack in one press of a button. This is unfortunate, but acceptable in the name of balance, I suppose.
The system I have is set up as if the commander build menu box is on the numpad of your computer.
7, 8, and 9 are the "switch menu" buttons for Build, Advanced Build, and Equip menus.
4, 5, 6, and + are the top row from left to right (so the Resource Tower in Build is on 4when in that menu. the top-left of the unused keys.)
1,2,3, and enter (the numpad one ) are the middle/second row from left to right
0 and . (ins and del) are the bottom row from left to right.
The far-left button key for row 1 is the long "+" key, and for row 2 it is the "enter" key below it because only these two rows have fourth items, so it works out.

It's pretty intuitive, if I do say so myself

Now, the ONLY catch that I couldn't get around: **READ THIS PART EVEN IF YOU'RE SKIMMING**
To switch menus, you have to press the key twice. So to go from Basic Build to Equip, then drop some health, you have to press (numpad):
9 - 9 - 5.
Nothing visibly happens on the first press of 9 (though the keys are all rebound, so the Basic menu won't work)
The menu switches on the second press of 9
You get the healthpack on your cursor on the press of 5

Note that you don't have to press the menu ITEM buttons twice, just the switch menu buttons.

Anyway, after much ado and explanation (I'd rather explain now then have to go back later ), the .cfg!

http://rawr.mine.nu/commander.cfg

To use it, put it in your Half-Life\ns directory. Then, either put "exec commander.cfg" in your autoexec.cfg, or simply type it from ingame.
As it says in the .cfg, feel free to edit and distribute it, but please leave my name attached to it somewhere. It took some work to do
Enjoy!

This is a GREAT idea, thanks. But, I happen to use the numpad to play (instead of WASD etc etc).

...This is going to take a while to edit.

Yeah, I figured that that might be an issue with some. It will work with any key setup, and shouldn't take THAT long to edit. Just change kp_whatever to whatever key you want. could you bind 7 8 9 to "exec build.cfg" "exec equip.cfg" "exec advanced.cfg" ?
each .cfg would just be like
    bind 4 hotkey44
    bind 5 hotkey 55
    etc.

i dunno this might let you switch in one hit of a key.

No, that's not really the problem -- the .cfg is set up roughly that way now, but just with an alias that calls other aliases instead of seperate .cfg files
The problem lies in the fact that to use a build command, you must be in the right menu.
To get to the right menu, you HAVE to press the correct key -- running hotkey88 from console or an alias or anything like that won't work, but if you bind a key to "hotkey88" and then press that KEY, it works fine.
Let's say you're on the Basic Build menu and hit the Equip menu button key (the keypad 9 button, known as kp_pgup to the game). It triggers an alias that rebinds kp_pgup to be "hotkey88", and rebinds kp_home to be another switch alias. It also rebinds all of the keys below the top row to be the proper item keys.
The SECOND press just runs hotkey88 from the button, which then switches the menu.
It's a quick workaround, but it's no big deal to hit it twice anyway, so I don't plan on improving it much (that, and I also don't know how to do it otherwise ).

Why not just put a command at the end that executes the next .cfg so that you only need to press the menu key once instead of twice?

EDIT: Not in the alias, add another line.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but the issue isn't executing cfgs, it's the menus.
You HAVE to press a key to execute the command to switch menus. Nothing else can go with it. It HAS to be alone on the key to which it is bound, and if anything else is on there with it, it doesn't work. I'll do a bit more research later, but as far as I know, the ONLY way to switch to the Equip menu is to have a key bound with "hotkey88" and nothing else (same for the other two menus). The two-press method is the only way, currently. If somebody can find a better method, feel free to post the completed .cfg
Edit: and by "have to press a key" I mean, once again, that no alias, cfg, or console command will trigger it. It has to be done from a key.

Now, now, you seem to have misunderstood.
For one, that link only has the build commands present in the bind menu in Half-Life. Mine has a considerable few more (like Armory, Siege Cannon, and Jetpack, to name a few) (by the way, Nuke is jetpack, not siege cannon). These I found myself through testing. Two days ago.
Also, the binds presented there do not allow you to switch menus with the keyboard. The "switching" discussed there deals with a config for marine-mode and a config for commander-mode. MY "switching" is about the commander menus only. It is also not something I've seen done in my short time around here.
And as for using the numpad, I didn't claim that i INVENTED the thing, geez. Just because you had the idea of binding a few already-known commands through the GUI to your keypad doesn't mean that I stole your idea when I found the rest of the commands through trial and error and created a dynamic bindset for them using *gasp* the numpad.
Geez, I try to do people a favor and make something useful. and I get flamed. Lay off

I'll just leave the quote off, because they're getting unruly.
Anyway, I didn't use b, v, and n because I don't play starcraft. And I feel that the way I have it layed out makes a little more sense, as there's no "n" in "equip" (as I assume b is build and v is adVanced). Also, I said that you could feel free to edit them as much as you wanted, so there's no reason you can't change kp_home, kp_uparrow, and kp_pgup to b, v, and n if you want to.

Also, I interpreted it as a flame because
    1) you told me to "die" at the beginning of it, not the best of signs
    2) you claimed indirectly that I stole all of my ideas, and
    3) you seemed to be posting it without even looking at what I made, because if you had you would have realized that it didn't match what you were claiming that I copied (it does match about 30%, but add in the extra build commands, extra functionality, and completeness of it, and you get a uniqe 70% or so )

My question is, what WAS the constructive point of your post if it wasn't a flame? I mean, it was a somewhat more articulate flame than "Omgz you stupid nubzz0rs", but there wasn't anything constructive in it, which tends to be the definition of a flame.
Also, if you have a problem with the LENGTH of my posts, it's just that I'm long-winded, and want to make sure that I'm well-understood before unleashing something onto the world. That way I don't get a bunch of "omg how does it work" posts later
