Post Your Performance/Specs Please
Doom 3 hits the UK in a couple of days (Friday, but some
will get their's on Thursday depending on who they
pre-ordered it from.) and I thought now would be a good time
to ask people who have Doom 3:
1: Your system specs - Please include driver details if poss.
2: How is Doom 3 running on that system?
Post things like, the screen resolution you run Doom 3 in,
details (I presume you choose from Low/Medium/High/Ultra etc),
and so on.
This should help those of us due to get the game soon, get a good
idea of what to expect when we start playing Doom 3.
At the moment I face a small but very tedious problem regarding
my Radeon 9800 Pro (Quiet Doomy! )
The only drivers I could find that don't cause slowdown in XSI
(3D modeling program) are the 4.3's.... but even since installing
them i've been having alot of random restarts.
(FarCry restarted itself... on the last damn level!)
I'm going to go and play Knights Of The Old Republic (X-Box - and
no it's doesn't suck - Doomy! *cough* "Worst Critic Ever??" *cough*)
whilst I consider downloading the the 4.9 beta's. (The 4.9's
apparently boost Doom 3 performance a good 15-20%)
Things not to post.
Doom 3 spoilers - plot lines - weapon/area information
nVidia fanboyism - eg "My <over-priced nVidia card name here> runs Doom 3 great!" :-D
Knights Of The Old Republic spoilers
Thanks in advance guys

He says he can run it well at 640x480 with medium detail. Knowing how much he likes smooth framerates, I'm guessing that this isn't the max it can run at playably.
512 DDR PC 3200
Geforce 4 Ti4200 128DDR @AGP 8X
I play 800x600@medium, my frames never stoop below 25~ (my bottleneck is my ancient videocard) Hallways with little activity I get 60fps consistantly however.
I can however run it at 20-30fps on ultra-high max resolution with lots of stuttering when new textures are on screen :o
1 gig DDR333 RAM
R9600XT
800x600 Medium Detail: 30-60 FPS, depending on what's on-screen.
And that's with numerous config tweaks and the use of the 4.9 CATs. I really have to recommend them, they seem to be quite stable for a beta release and the speed boost is mandatory.

I'm having a serious problem with cooling though, specifically the 9800XT. It hits temps around 80C in game, and thats slighty underclocked. I've ordered some extreme cooling for it though and that should help.
What are CATs?
1gb 3200
radeon 9600 pro
I play at 800x600 res with settings on medium with good fps. With the res on 1024x768 fps drops some.

Have tried it at 1024x768, 800x600, and 640x480 on Low, Medium and High detail levels, with shadows on and off... my framerate usually hovers at 30fps regardless, with the occasional hiccup that freezes the screen for a split-second.. most likely taking place at zone-transition points.
Note that this is without the Viper's Lair optimizations, so it might perform a bit better afterward. Considering putting on the Cat4.9 Beta, but from what I've heard it mostly benefits the R9800 and up.

Radeon 9800 pro 128mgb
some middle class mobo.
Running: The most recent ATI Omega Drivers (the version applies cats 4.7 technology)
I run 1024x768 at high detail running constant 30+ FPS with only small stutters when triggers load. I have nearly ever tweak applied though, even the urar of the .pk4 files.
GeForce 4 MX440
256 MB DDR SDRAM (Don't ask)
Some sort of VIA mobo
Running : The latest nVidia drivers (61.77?)
DOOM 3 settings : All on lowest. Specular lighting is off, all the rest are on or untouched.
Running a bit choppy, but playable. It's just....choppy and playable....
Other than those weird crashes I keep getting, but that's my fault since I have less than enough RAM

I run at 800*600 windowed, on low quality with all the pretty things turned off. (Everything in Advanced. The game is still damn dark with shadows off, and there are STILL shadows.)
I hope that somebody makes a low-poly DOOM 3 pack soon...

640x480, all LOW, all advanced settings off:
The highest FPS I've got was 6 and that was while looking on the floor. During an attack: 2-3 fps.
Pity me.
I was on a 933mhz 128meg sdram geforce 2 system.
Now I'm on:
P4 3.2Ghz (Hyper Threading)

And it's maxed on 1024x768 with fps that's basically never below 45.

1G PC-3200 DDR
Geforce FX 5700 Ultra 256 256
Most of the time 60FPS in singleplayer, but can drop when big battles occur, and pretty lighting sources present themselves, most of the time very playable though.
MP is another story...
Optimized graphical settings (currently on high w/o Vsync or AA)
medium 512 DDR400
ancient G3Ti200
settings medium at 800x600, frames 45 in hallways, 30 in battle, 15 if theres more than three creatures in the room.
it only stutters when entering a new area, and im pretty sure thats because my ancient video card does AGP4x with 64 megs of vram, and it cant load all the new rooms textures fast enough.
unzipping the pk4 files removed the lag when a new monster teleported in, this was caused by the intense harddrive activity it was causing to unzip the model file on demand.

Geforce FX 5900XT
800x600 High, I changed all those settings around that are supposed to improve performance...latest drivers...turned off high quality special effects (was giving me this weird error with glass) and I still get ~15 fps in a normal sized room...if I'm in a corridor or elevator or anything it will jump to a constant 60. None of the changes I make seem to have any effect, only by turning the settings to low do I notice any difference in fps OR quality.
Edit: Goddammit, just after posting this I decide to try and reinstall my drivers...I now get 50-60 fps in big areas and ~40 at 1024x768...this is even with 4x AA and 2x aniso... don't know why I didn't try sooner.

Framerates are fine most of the time, I've only noticed drops during the beginning sequence when the ship lands and a few other times.

*looks around ashamedly* I... Never... Played the original DOOM.
*looks even more ashamed* My mom did, though. By the time I was interested in FPS games, games with good stories were out and I hungered for those instead.

I get better fps in doom 3 than the lattest boost for the original doom...it does look like a million bucks compared to the unboosted doom.
P4 1.8 ghz
512 MB RAMBUS (rdram)
sapphire Ati Radeon 9800 pro 128 mb (256bit)

creative SB LIVE! (not that it matters as doom3 doesnt make use of hardware acceleration. Works as good as onboard sound.
None of these are over-clocked as doom3 is sensitive to overclocking of any kind. Using the 4.7 official cats, tho the beta 4.9 sounds promising i'm not installing over as i can run d3 comfortably, and also because i wanna run other titles too. (dont want any glitches to appear just so i can play one title). Running on the latest DX 9.0c
My ingame settings:
I would suggest ignoring the settings doom3 set based on your hardware and instead go for custom configurations.
-1024x768x32, fullscreen
-medium detail (64 low, 128 medium, 256 high, 512 ultra high)
-all effects on, except for AA and AF which are off.
-all the tweaking and fooling around with the cvars the internet has to offer. (heck, i spent more time doing that than playing )
-did some system tweaking.
-did not unpack the pak files as
1)takes up even more disk space (2-3gbs)
2)have fun when id releases a new patch.
3)the increase in fps is minimal.
Oh yeah and defragmenting the drive after installation. Noticable improvment as levels load very slow before i did the above. Now it loads faster. Remember to reset your virtual memory so that your data all lies in one cluster (this is the data in green, defragment cannot do anything to this data).
Damn him and his X800!
I currently have a radeon 9200 and I refuse to even run DOOM until I figure out which card I want to buy... Radeon 9800 pro or Radeon X800.
512 MB RAM
Radeon 9200 AIW on 4.7 CATs
Windows XP: Media Center

All advanced menu stuffs - off
I average about 40-30 fps at that rate, during combat it can dip to unreasonable numbers, so I just turned everything as high as it can go since it doesn't make a big difference anyway
