i have steam, and it works well
i have a computer that can run any game
i followed the steps on the webbed topic to install
I do the "play games"-ns-and it starts correctly

There also is a lack of any good information about why it happens.
I would check the following:
Make sure NS is running in OpenGL mode
Make sure your system have enough power (By that i mean from the power supply unit)
Have you checked to see if any other Steam games crash
If the above is all Ok, I would redownload the NS installers from a diffrent site. its possible there is a file in the installer thats broken.
Sadly there isnt much more information on this subject <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
yes
yes
yes
thx for the presence, ill try to redownload
If dl and reinstall don't work, other things to check:
Make sure you got latest card drivers. Scan for spyware using Spybot S&D AND Adware 6.0. Check your firewall and make sure it is configed correctly(or turn off as a test). Defrag can't hurt.
Are you using cable, dsl, dial-up? Make sure in Steam > Settings, that your internet connection speed is correct. I find that this setting, for whatever reason, will reset to something other than what you set it to.
Also what are system specs? Vid Card, RAM, and OS in particular.
So you can run all the games, TFC, CS, DOD without a problem. Only NS your having a problem?
hmm..but i dont know if i have the latest drivers oO

<a href='http://www.ati.com' target='_blank'>ATI</a>
<a href='http://www.google.com' target='_blank'>Google</a>
Just a guess, so I doubt it'll work.

another thread on this issue here:

Looks like you may need to play thru the starting level in HL once before starting up NS to make sure all the files you need to play are there and ready to go.
Edit: also, I'd resolve whatever sound card issue it seems like you are having, you should be able to play cds in your PC without it crashing. It could be that the sound subsystem is trying to load and crashing. I doubt ns being and official mod will fix this problem, it seems either system or steam related.
Don't know, maybe you have CD active?
Also, which steam installation are you using? The 500k one or the full cache? If the former, I suggest you uninstall and install the latter.

and...urm..well...i think i installed the "typical" instaliation when i was asked...is this the full cache?
