That doesn't make any sense. All you ever need is
1) complete mega-uber-super-dooper-download 2) incremental patch from last release
because the vast majority of players fall into:
1) never played before -> need the latest version as one download 2) everybody else, who is running the last latest version, who just need the next incremental update
Ok, now there are some nuts (wuv <3) that play NS 1.4 or NS 2.5 or NS 3.some_frooky_version_only_god_knows... but i'm not really concerned about them because firstly there are only like 3 of them, and secondly if they know how to run an old version of NS, then they are probably smart enough to figure out what else they need to download to get current.
So, in conclusion:
* NS_Latest_uber_pantload.zip/exe * NS_Latest_incremental.zip/exe * thousand points of light * stay the course
Do you have <a href='http://www.steampowered.com' target='_blank'>Steam</a>? If yes, then you are ready to install Natural-Selection. If not, go get steam first.
isn't the next NS version supposed to be a STEAM managed installation. we don't have to download anything it just updates itself automatically whenever that's needed from now on?
Huh... sorry, but it may be a litlle off topic... i guess (well, in fact i'm sure it is... ^^)
But if i overwrite my folder "ns" in the path "C:\SIERRA\HalfLife\ns" by the one in steam "C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\random@adresse.something\half-life\nsp", will i be able to play the version 3.04a by launching Half Life ?
Because a lot of my friends don't want to install Steam, but they have Half Life updated to the last version (they're all old players of CS1.5, and i try to convert them ^^).
If not possible, is there any trick to play on LAN the version 3.04a ?
You mean your friends don't own half-life? Yeah, ok, I think you can copy the folder to your half-life dir. But erase the old folder first, or don't rename the new one, let it be nsp and either select it from the custom game menu or change the shortcut to C:\Sierra\Half-life -game nsp instead of C:\Sierra\Half-life -game ns.
PS: If they do own half-life, there's a csv1.5 for Steam, which you can download I-don't-know-where. However, I prefer CS1.6.

Actually, Red mentioned the 'base'. Before we confuse y'all even further, just so much: You will only need one d/l to play Beta 5, no matter where you are starting from.

I am assuming that many of the maps got changed, and thus the download would be horibly long no matter what <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
remember, maps and models are the only things that realy beef up a HL Mod.

simply create a fully functional install of NSP on YOUR steam account.
burn the thing to a CD and give it to them to copy to Half-life\nsp
And my friends got Half life...
But they're don't like Steam (french complex ? maybe... because 5 of them have tried it and don't like... ugh)
I've never played NS 2.0 before... i've found the lerk fly system very strange... than the one in 3.04a.
Well, i'll burn the NS directory and replace it to make them play the 3.04a version !
Again, thanks ! ^^
