That my NS server uses almost no CPU power on my server. On nearly all the maps cept the 2 yall say eat up cpu power im only using about 2-5 % of my cpu and this is with a FTP up and a Gamevoice server always running. My server box is as follows:

That is strait from Dxdiag.

Also the HD size is 6 60gig Hds on a Raid 10 if i remember correctly.

I still have to test the 2 maps yall say eat up the cpu. Once i test them with a full load of people ill report back!

Also im running on a 2.4meg Cable Line. Nearly all pings are below 70 cept for the dialups. Im set at 10 player right now but later im gonna up it to 12 and test then 14 and so on.

Also on another note i suggest you try and max out your ram ok? Trust me this is a application servers and they need more ram than they do processing power. Ive talked to many people about this and most of them are Network Engineers and Techs.

Considering i can run a Battlefield 1942 server with about 16ppl with good pings im sure i can push this to 20+ and get good pings but gonna test it slowly

Just to let u all know my server with all maps and full load of 10ppl only use 3-5% on my CPU!!! WOOT!

I told you im just using Raw power! like i said before MAX OUT YOUR RAM! Ram is everything to a Application Server trust me the more ram the better performance you shall get!!

With this mod u don't need it really. i'm on 376K/3Mbps Cable and i can only host 14 ppl because of the CPU, not my pipe.

I'd like to also note, that i run 1Gb PC133, but i don't see the justification of going to 1Gb of 2100DDR because my ram prices started going up thursday. Its almost cheaper to buy a better CPU than 1Gb DDR. But yes, the more than the better because i only have 10Mb free on a 14ppl server. It hasn't started hitting the swap file yet (only about 1Mb is used) So he is right, but damn, he his advice is expensive <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'>

u have a nice server there and i played on it for about an hour till i got banned...

do u know what i was doing? i was raping the aliens with my lightmachinegun and the commander was nicely dropping me health, but no ammo. i ran out of ammo continiued raping the alien structures and people with my pistol, while asking for ammo. when i had about 3 bullets left in the pistol i got banned. any idea why?

Jack where do u get you ram from? Also DDR is twice as fast as SDRam so there will be a huge difference.

ZarX's server is definitely lag-free, plus he's got some mod on there that displays how much life was lost when someone gets hurt, which is pretty neat.

Be careful about the DDR and SDR issue. DDR has twice the bandwidth capability, but memory is not currently a major bandwidth bottleneck. In real world performance benchmarks you will see that DDR is only about 5% faster than SDR.

I don't think you are reading your CPU usage correctly. I highly doubt you are runing a 14 or 16 player server and only utilizing 5% of the CPU unless you have that app limited to 5%.

That would have nothing to do with the results you are talking about. Most people now days can build a great system with off the shelf parts. As for being made to be game server, he went the wrong way.

BTW, my home computer is more powerful then that, if you go by the numbers.

Before this gets nasty I am just saying that you are not reading it right. No matter how good your friend is, unless he re-made the CPU to be 3 to 5 times faster and opened up the bandwidth to the cpu, and fixed all other bottlenecks then this is not happening.

I guess he could have somehow got the server code and fixed it, but that I doubt also.

Just because your friend put it together doesn't mean jack. And software would have to be made to fully take advantage of anything. Like dual cpus are really nice, but if you don't have software to take advantage of that its useless. WINXP Pro does take advantage of half of the 2nd cpu...why only half i'll never know. Like i have a geforce 4 ti4600, but you don't see pixel shading in hl. although that would be nice.
