Why Can't I Respawn?

in New Player Forum
i've played on 5 different servers tonight... the whole basis of the game is neat but whenever i die, i have to rejoin the friggin server! the first time... i waited dead for a minute then went crazy on the keyboard and mouse yet didn't respawn so i asked the guys. some guy said you have to rejoin, ok he's probably being an **obscenity** but i'll humor him and rejoin.. i die again but this time on the Alien team (was a Marine before that) and i'm dead dead... i shrink the game, go check my email and post in a forum. bring the game back up and i can't respawn still.

wtf is going on? what's the point in playing if you have to rejoin the server every time you die?

    I'm sure I don't know. Normally, you have to wait for anywhere from 5-10 seconds to respawn. I haven't seen this problem at all during my time playing Natural Selection. It might help if you more clearly explained what is going on.

    ...On second thought, it might be a better idea to bring this problem up in the Tech support forum. That's what it's there for, after all.

    For the marines, you need one infantry portal to respawn, and this should get created at the start of the game. If all of your infantry portals get destroyed then you won't be able to respawn until at least one is built and ready.

    For the aliens, you need at least one hive to respawn, if this gets destroyed, another needs to be built before you can respawn.

    For both teams it'll take at least 5 seconds of waiting to get respawned, and you might end up waiting in line while the people who died before you respawn. This is for various reasons, I could imagine as an alien you need a bit of time to be "born", and for the marines it might take a bit of time for reinforcements to reach the area. Also, this prevents a lot of spawn kills (ie spawning on a player will kill them).

    This was probably your problem: Did you screen stay black after you died rather then lock you into spectator view? If so that;s your problem, i think its a bug in the game or something.

    If your screen stays Black instead of going spectator you need to hit JUMP(least thats what i do) if you don't it will stay black rather then go to spec and you will never respawn, pressing jump will send you to spec and you will respawn as normal.

    IF A DEV SEES... That may need fixing or something. If its an issue.

    Grr I dunno this... Everytime My screen go black and cant spawn i go to the readyroom and rejoin the team. Now I know...
