Actually, CC blocking a ventilation shaft or any other sort of entrance/exit completely is against CAL rules as well. Not to say thats a good measure for public play, but if you're at least going to remotely pretend to be a competitive commander thats the one thing you can't do with a Commchair.
Largely obstructing a path or chokepoint is fine however, as well as drawing fire from OCs. And to be quite honest, thats one of the few things where CAL rules make alot of sense - theres no objective enough way to disallow (without gameplay changes) CC blocking on a server without ruling out a whole slew of options in the process, but excluding vent-blocking is easy to do.
Forlorn, if servers post their rules in console when you connect. Or ask you to check their website or something with AMX when you connect and they say "No CC blocking" or whatever. Then power to them, the Cyber Athletics League allows this so its what you and I are accustomed to. But they have every right to bad commanders that block with CCs. The guy who tried to make a point with the no reloading or flashlights is 100% right. Their wrong? to who? you? nobody cares.
Edit, Yea, you cant block a vent or something denying access to the area, but if a skulk can still pass through the obstruction CAL allows it.

For those who say CC blocking is legit and they're totally for it. Go aliens sometime while I comm and I'll show you ways that'll boggle your mind on how truely lame I can be with proper CC placement in blocking off routes and vents. I'll have you tearing every last strand of hair out of your head by the time the game's over. If a comm knows what he's doing he can hardcore screw over higher-lifeforms into uselessness due to their large size.
I believe the dev team and cal commented on this entire issue during a cal match were it was used. Flayra himself said it was legit.. Then again cows control the earth and we have yet to hear their opinion on the subject.

Ah, cc blocking, the lamest of all tactics. Ok, ok, there are lammer, but... Personally I would like to see a no-build radius around ladders, so that it couldn't be used for ladder blocking. And a higher jump for the onos would be nice, too, to give him the chance of jumping over the CC easier and to let him be able to run+ crouch jump over them when they are placed on ramps and the onos is coming from the lower part.
Hmmm yeah seems like the low hp thing would be more appropriate for CCs on vents. It's what happens in all RTS. Ever wondered why you can't build a town center to distract enemy towers? Have you ever tried blocking the enemy army with one? You can't. Because it starts at 1hp and the builder must get to the area before it's built. But in NS everything is exactly the contrary. As I see it, it can't be implemented in NS. Think about it: you are building a rt and you die to a skulk. He bites it. In 5 bites he's done. The comm will never be able to recycle.
I think I have a possible answer to both problems of CC blocking and alien chamber blocking on vents: An invisible no-build brush on vent entrances/exits, as well as possible exploitable places. (any place on a vent with a high roof) Simple as that. No extra code is needed, just some brushes added to most maps.
So, for those who don't like to read, I say let the onos jump higher and no-build vent entrances/exits and other exploitable places inside vents.
Just a little off topic. best map for cc blocking: tanith.
2 cc's at rine start, both on the entrances
beacon. fun begins. ive done, and had that done to me, on more than one occasion. and there is NOTHING more frightening than hearing the sound of that beacon, simultanously trying to desparatly crawl past that cc.
cc block ftw.
