I will continue to update this thread with new info+pics on my new

map ns_kama (came-a)

------------------
PROGRESS
------------------

<b>80%</b> as of 31st Jan 2005

---------------------
Brief story line
---------------------

Set in sub lvl5 of the (yet to be named) colony. This level houses the revolutionary
"kama heating technology"
This section of the colony was being expanded but digging was brought to an
abrupt halt when the workers broke through to a small cavern.
Of course this cavern contained the Khara and they began to spread through the facility
and the TSA is called in to eliminate them . . .blah blah blah. . . It still needs work but thats
the jist of it. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Please give all&any C+C you like(remember its nly 35% done. . .loadsa room for change) I got a style that I absolutly love and so far its working well.

.::edit::. update progress report

    layout so far
    no vents in this minimap

    green = hive
    blue = ms
    orange = rs
    yellow = unfinshed, this is where i will be building on from.

    I especially like the way you did the stairs and the railings (in addition to the curves of course) this is good becuase it allows one to shoot through the gaps which will make it an interesting challenge for when I GL.

    ~edit~

    Lot and lots of vents and alternate routes are always a plus. It's an RTS map quality called entropy. (more routes and choices means higher entropy)

    looks good, like the whole red theme. The only problem I have with it is the detailtextures, makes the walls look fuzzy. Keep up the good work tho

    Looks quite good. It has a very 'Tanith' feel to it. Im not too hot on the textures, but I like the MarineStart with the sweeping curve, that's a nice touch. You may already be planning this but it might be an idea to add some crates, and debris to spice it up a little and also offer some cover for reloading/hiding etc.

    By the way if it's the Karate-style weapon Kama I don't think it's pronounced came-a, but I'm guessing you just made up the name. Info below if it is the weapon you named it after.

    KAMA (SICKLE)

    History: In 1470, when traditional weapons were confiscated by the Japanese military, Okinawan commoners utilized the kama as a fighting blade, often attaching a chain to the base for greater reach. This longer weapon was known as a kusarigama.

    Traditional use: The kama was originally used for cutting grass. In close range fighting, the sickle could be used to trap an opponent's weapon, or for striking.

    Current use: The kama is most commonly used in kata (forms) competition and demonstrations. The forms include circular movements which improve blocking and countering techniques.

    Someone should make a Samurai HL mod <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Agentx5: thanks, plenty of vents are in already and loads more will be added.

    Josemite: Haha is my texturing skills that good that you think they are
    detailtextures. . .cus there not. prolly just my poo touchup i did on the pics. . . <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    its not that bad? . . .

    -[Kobayashi]- : well i love the texure them i got going. . .its different. . .there staying. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    I never planned on adding crates, but i suppose some sorta cover will needa be added, i think about it. thanks for the input. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    little insight into the name: the letters K A M & A are the initials for something.
    means something to me.

    Moconnor, the only thing that you might want to tweak is that water texture, try scaling it to 2x so you get rid of that ugly pattern. Other than that everything looks good.
  • MoconnorMoconnor Join Date: 2002-07-26 Member: 1004Members
    moose: i thought water textures defaulted to normal 1x in game, i just forgot to change the fx amount, that should help a bit.
  • ChronoChrono Local flyboy Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18989Members
    that marine start looks amazing
  • MooseMoose Join Date: 2003-05-13 Member: 16248Members
    Trust me, you can scale a water texture to 6x if you want, and it will scale in game. A higher scale makes water look more realistic, plus you lose the pattern I mentioned.

    ah ok moose, will do, haha i dunno where i heard of that meh. . .

    Different, but nice looking. It almost has an old-school feel to it, but it works very well <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Map looks awsome, great achitecture style, layout looks good to. Just beware of the seige radius we don't want your map to have another generator (over important location on ns_nothing)

    There are a few visual tweaks:
    - overlays on those white lights, right now they seem a bit intense and distracting.
    - pic 3 the lower celin there has some lights that arnt lit and the rest of it is plane
    - pic 4 the light in the top corner needs to be moved away from the wall abit to darken the bright yellow ish looking infestation
    - pic 7 The texturing is boring along the wall, try to spice it up with some lights or steam pipe... or something a ledge or two...

    Looks great, should play out really well with the layout! Keep it up!

    Very gritty style, I'm rather partial to it, althought in my eyes those strips of yellow lights look hideous in comparison to the surrounding nicities.

    Looks very nice and new, the only things that poke out at me as ugly is the water texture and those chunky wedges near the white floor lights in pic 4.

    I like it, kinda has an industrial feel to it.

    looking very good so far, I'm not a big fan of those textures, but you make them appeal to me in a strange sort of way <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    keep it up, and keep us updated

    Oooh., I doubt I'm the only one to whom the red stripes give a ns_tanith like feeling. Just that you made art using them <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->. I know it's stupid, but I just have to say this: It's KAMAsutra for my eyes!!.. I'm looking forward to test it.

    I really like the redish theme you've got in this map Moconnor! Very nice details, architecture, and light styles too. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> People that helped you out during the ns_fenris remake get to beta test it right? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    You have a very unique style going on there. Well done. I especially like the curves in the Marine start. Dont touch them. That staircase/ramp in screenshot 2 would look better with a railing I think.
