Real Teamwork

Okay, I forget the name of the map we were playing on, but it's the map with the Triade generator room, and Elcipse Command hive location... I went Random, as usual, and ended up as a Marine. Now lately marines HAVE been getting their heads handed to them unless they have a commander who gets it together. But we were lucky and had a pretty awesome guy in charge. And, of course, a good bunch of players who didn't drive the commander nuts asking for HMG and HA five minutes into the game, and could actually look at the HUD and see how many resource points we had.

Anyway, early on in the game we charged Eclipse Command and took over, building up a nice little defensive network before moving on. Even there teamwork showed though, because 4 of us went down there together, covered the entrences, and backed each other up. It was a great job.

Now, fast forward a half an hour or so, and the aliens are putting up quite a fight. And suddenly the message comes down the line that Elcipse Command just got blown out, and they;re building their third hive. Which pretty much means game over for us if they get it up. So we do a little recon... And get blown to hell by some defensive chambers.

Now I'm back at base, and command is outfitting two marines with HA and HMGs to try to clear a path. I'm ready to go along, but I see we don't have enough resources for more weapons and armor. So rather than stand there like a dead weight, waiting for some resourse points, I ask command for a welder to help out my buddies, stock up on ammo for my LGM, and catch up with my slow and steady teammates.

Now, we get to the area past Triad, there there's a little ramp leading down into the hive room. I never got a good look in there myself, but the place must have been PACKED With chambers from the sounds I was hearing. Plus there was at least one Fade, maybe more. I didn't see all that much, since this was where the teamwork came in...

My two heavy brethren would tromp forward and POUR fire down the hallway, and take a beating doing it. Then one would step back towards me where I'd repair his armor, and command would shower him with health and ammo. Over and over and over we did this. I took some damage from some Fade acid rounds hitting nearby, but for the most part I was safe behind the heavies. And with my welder there, they just kept going and going... They must have been giving the defenders fits! Where were all these HAs coming from??

Well, needless to say afyer maybe five, ten minutes of constant fighting we broke through, nailed the hive, and went one to total victory. All thanks to a good commander and a bit of teamwork.

So I guess the moral of the story is don't sweat it if you can't get your hands on the big toys. Ask command for what you can, and back those walking, talking tanks up, and you'll still earn your keep.

Now THAT is a well-earned victory!

(Good thing the aliens weren't smart enough to come around behind you en masse. )

Well, one or two skulks DID Try to sneak around and come at us from behind. But, in general, stepping into a tight cooridor between two HMGs and a LMG is NOT conducive to a long, productive life for a Skulk.

Could also be tht the rest of my team was keeping them busy elsewhere. Really couldn't say.

I also had a good teamwork game a couple of minutes ago. It was on the map ns_caged I guess and it was a 4 player server. There were 2 marines and an alien which was a gorge. I joined the alien team and took over the command. We had the appointment that he would stay gorge and that I would be lurking around as a skulk, biting off every marine head I saw. It went quite well. There was this one dude who always wanted to build a resource tower at the same location again and again, so I kept lurking in the ventilation system and whenever I saw him I jumped down and bit his head off. At one point this wasn?t really possible anymore because he got a shotgun from the commander and he killed me more than I did him, so I suggested to build up the other 2 hives as fast as possible. So instead of trying to kill him I just kept him busy, running around through the halls, up to his marine base and everywhere else, making sure that he was chasing me (This shotgun has a huge spread, u know ). After some time my gorge friend managed to build up all three hives and he also secured them properly. So I decided it was time to go onos. I searched for a nice little dark corner and evolved there, choosing carapace, cloak and adrenaline. My gorge friend and I teamed up and I was going in front while he always kept some distance. So we cleared room after room from sentries and enemy resource towers. While I was attacking he healed me and after the room was totally secured he built up a couple of defensive and offensive towers, also webbing the floors and entrances while I stood guard. At one point we were close to the marine base and I ordered him to build hella lots of defensive towers in the room next to it. Luckily, the marines never noticed us. After the work was done we both evolved into onos, rushing in there whenever possible with rage activated and pulling back to get healed in a couple of seconds. Needless to say, we pretty much owned them. After the game was over we both congratulated each other, chatted a bit and then left the server.

Boy that was nearly more teamwork than I can bear.

One aline game I played a night ago had this as well. We were in a bit of a gridlock with the hooms. We just couldn't get to that third hive, was well defended by turrets. Their commander knew where to turret up, at fitting choke points. The hooms were pushing at one choke point that we held, a large room with a node where I gorged, built up offense and defense chambers . Then faded with armor, adrenaline and vuln sight. I think I held back the marines singlehandedly for 15 minutes whil my pals tried to clear out the 3rd hive location. I must have killed 2o marines with my acid, since they had to approach me down a T section with a nice shooting path. They had some HA and grenades but no HMG. My chambers kept me healthy. whenever they were "spawning" back I went in, clawed away at one of the turrets and rushed back to heal. Finally they got up siege turrest and I was wasted. but then were about to break through with 3rd hive, and soon after we had onos and a really glorious endgame for the aliens. I didnt know of umbra, otherwise I'd have asked for lerk support. And they would probably have bagged that 3rd hive a bit sooner if they had done lerk/fade umbra combo instead of taking pot shots at the turrets and then dive for healing. The good was that peeps listened. No one went overboard with the gorges, and we didnt get sensory chamber by mistake because players listened to the wise commands of our "hive mind". The battle was long and fun. Only in the last 10 minutes was it clear who would lose. I like those kinds of games.

Blimey, I wish I could try and be in a clan for this game. First time ever I felt the NEED for a good team of players that knows how to co-op.

Yeah, its nice to be in a game where there is teamwork. Unfortunately not all of the servers I've been on have had teamwork

Wow, I never heard soo much teamwork, it makes me want to cry. But I am surprised that they didn't circle around and hit you guys from behind were you were welding them, without you they would of died off fast. If I were a skulk I would of went straight behind out and bite you to death then I would start attacking the HA marines and I might get a kill before they relize "Hey, the guy welding us is gone and a skulk is biting my back!"

It seems a lot easier to get teamwork going as aliens. I often go gorge or lerk and provide support for others. This always works great.

Marines on the other hand always want to run off on their own. Usually I try to find at least one marine to team up with me the whole game. This is quite cool if you are communicating better, but I haven't had too many experiences with this.

Hardest thing to do as commander is to get your troops to stick together and use teamwork.

As a commander i've found 3 man teams of marines to be optimal in terms of damage and sustainability. It works even better if you have more than three marines, because the rest of your guys can go it alone and basically act as diversionary.

Although for taking on Onos it's either one marine alone or everyone.

Today I had a very scary moment at Caged... man I wish I could have captured it in some way...
We were surrounded in a secondary base near the ventilation hive, since our starting base was completely destroyed. Fades were pouring in from all directions, and Lerks were sniping us...
I was taking ammo out of the armory, when I looked up into the ceiling. A fade was walking on a ledge in the darkness way up there... man, that was really creepy... Don't ask me how he got up there, there was no way he could have blinked there...
k, I'm done. Not much of a storyteller, I know...

I've noticed lately (as commander) that if you can get a few guys to stick togehter.. you can force everyone else to work with them (as long as the noobs don't kick you). I was commander on a server lastnight and everyone found out that they could get the helth/armor/support they need by sticking with the guys who were actully trying to advance our defense.

We also built a second complete command post early (which we used).

Long story short.... Teamwork won a very long (2 hours) match.

So as a commander I say.. VGG to those who work together. Everyone needs to take a lesson from these types of players.

On a side note.. commanding is easy if you know where your guys are. So I've learned to just let the wanna be lone rangers die.

    Stay with your teams!

I did a similar thing in ns_eclipse. I was a skulk and went to the triad genetator room. The marines had set up turrets and a base there so I wallclimbed far up enough so that the turrets couldn't hit me. Once up on a small, blue-glowing power ledge, I evolved to a fade and acid rocketed their turrets and base from above. Shortly after the rest of the aliens came in and cleaned things up there.

There was no other way besides wall-climbing or flying to get up to that ledge. So that might explain the expierence you had there.

Had a really good teamwork experience today on, I think Eclipse. We got our base fortified with turrets on both doors then went out in a four man team to go resource snatching.

    Grabbed the first node.

Grabbed a second node, fortified, went back and fortified the first, and most importantly stuck toghether and covered each other.

In the end we still lost (the commander was gracious enough to say it was his fault for being slow but I thought he did okay, the aliens were just really on the ball). On the other hand we did get a nice fun desperate last stand with Onos' and Fades charging through hails of LMG and pistol fire.
