I'm talking about movies, but I guess anime counts too or tv shows, any soundtracks at all.
this post is inspired half by zig's thread about songs that get to you, and half by my seeing Garden State recently, which is my new favorite movie, and my new favorite soundtrack... you have no idea how thrilled I was when, during the movie, I heard an awesome and completely unlikely cover of one of my favorite songs, 'such great heights' by the postal service... and then during the credits, I saw that the cover was done by ANOTHER of my favorite bands, Iron and Wine... and that song was just the icing on the cake of the already sweet soundtrack, featuring other faves like Zero7, coldplay, thievery corporation, and simon and garfunkel...
so that's my favorite soundtrack. Wes Anderson movies (Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums) come in second.
what soundtrack(s) pwn you?

good calls... I forgot about musicals.
also, Apollo 13 reminds me of how awesome the Solaris soundtrack was.
Punisher OST
probably more, but I'm tired
HL Rally
Coppala's Dracula
Gladiator
Any of Hanz Zimmer or Danny Elfman, really.
Stuff by Hans Zimmer and John Williams always rocks (so I suppose: throw Jurassic Park and Gladiator on there too).
Cowboy Bebop has some good music...the movie seems kindof odd though; as it seems the picked the songs for beat instead of knowing what the lyrics were...but whatever.
Lilo & Stitch soundtrack might be okay too...some of the songs in the movie work nice for what's on screen.
is awesome.

Amen to that.
Band of Brothers
Forest Gump
Gladiator
Lord of the Rings Series
meh, thats all I can think of now.
I could go on but too many to list.
Hanz Zimmer is the best in terms of Musical scores.
For games, I'd say the original Command & Conquer (don't know quite what genre you'd call it), Total Annihilation (classical, orchestral stuff) and Quake II (industrial rock). And I've got a soft spot for the music from Lemmings, Dune 2 and Sam & Max, too (among others).
For movies, I have to say when I was watching Ocean's Eleven the other night, I really got into the soundtrack. And I don't usually get into music like that.
Anime... for overall soundtrack (background music, as well as the title and closing tracks): Fullmetal Alchemist. The second closing is particularly effective. And say what you like about the opening, but I still like the soundtrack to Samurai Champloo
For movies, probably Lord of the rings or The Matrix
