Ns Skills...

This game is NOT like a bike.
You know how people say, "Once you learn to ride a bike, you never forget and it feels the same not matter how long you once did so"? Well, I haven't played NS is over a month, and now when I play, I suck and besides that, the game just feels... skewed off in some way. It doesn't seem to be so fullfilling and involving...

What I'm saying, anyone get this too now?

As a general rule of thumb, a person must spend 1 day sking to regain skills lost in 1 year away from the slopes. Give NS a week and you'll think it's much better.

Yea, its been 2 months for me, and I feel a bit weird comming back to it again. Also my desk layout is different and my enviornment is different as well, so that will be some factors for me as well.

Most of the time, I feel that my skill in games never increases. I never get better, but I grow into them to a certain point where my skill increase just stops, and never goes up, but stays constant instead. Its a real pain in the ****.

I was like this for the first 6 or so years of playing, but then you start to not notice it because people are that crap despite what they think , public servers are retarded, ns leagues are for the majority, also retarded. I can help you if you live in europe though, but atm my pc is burnt out so no gaming for me for a fair while til I can afford to spare the money to get a new one.

The average time I spend playing a game per week is inversely proportional to my success playing the game.

    I get what you mean.

I haven't played NS for 5 months and now my aim is pretty jerky when playing as marines.

I'm still good with the aliens though. Just need to get back mein dodging!

Of course it is not riding a bike. Riding a bike is simple, learning to aim good takes more time. It is not a skill you keep, you lose it faster.

I think everyone works like that. Just getting back in the mind set or learning how things work will gain you alot of 'skill'(as in being more efficient), after that you have to decrease your reaction time, get better at aiming, practice to work better togheter with the team and similar, this is much much harder so you won't notice that you're getting better at all. Still, I imagine that if I played against what I was 5 years ago I would notice a big difference, particularilly with 'the twitch'( that method of aiming hit scan, single shot/slow semi-auto weapons that everyone is so fond off. The intention is to defeat your ~0.2 s reaction time by instead of tracking just predict where the target is going to be in a short moment when it looks like that's easiest to do and moving very quickly there and firing without thinking).

I play only about every month or so due to necessity. You should be able to recover the basics extremely quickly. Since I stopped playing regularly long ago, however, I have lost some very important movement skills.

So take note that you might not be that superl33t godly version of yourself, if there ever was one, if you are not able to invest the time. In other words, you must be truly coming back into the game. Furthermore if you ARE able to invest the time, don't go all the way, sleep and do stuff iRL too, haha. That way your brain is rested and able to learn, you are able to play at peak performance, and you do not wreck your life

Someone mentioned a skill barrier. A development rut. My advice:
sleep more play less to break through the barrier
Trust me, if you start losing sleep for whatever reason, such as having lots of free time to devote to gaming, your abilities will start to degrade severely - you might still be better than 99% of pubbers, who knows, but bye bye FPS god. You will be stuck in a rut all the faster because your brain will be unwilling to improvise, and slow to learn, and your reactions and decisionmaking will degrade.
