what have you guys heard?
Given how horrible the last two movies were, along w/ the last video game, I wasn't really paying attention to The Matrix Online, the new MMO in development by Monolith (Lithtech engine, No One Lives Forever, etc). However, I have a classmate whom seems to feel this was a grave injustice on my part and that said game merits further investigation.
The concepts certainly sound entertaining (if not entirely refreshing or original), but I still do not have an opinion as to whether the team can pull it off or not.
So what have you guys heard about the game? Crap on a stick, or the digital equivilant of pancakes w/ syrup?
mmmm pancakes...

But then something happened... Sega stepped in. That's right! Stamped on the front of Matrix Online is the label, the insignia, the very name of those evil geniuses who made the life-stealing game Phantasy Star Online.
I was intrigued. I had to know about this game. What did sega have to do with it? Would they bring the awesome powers they'd displayed in PSO to bear on this MMO?
If you'd heard about some of the gameplay ideals they'd been aiming for in Warhammer Online (which was sadly cancelled) then it wouldn't lessen your interest any less.
I think Sega is only playing a part in publishing MXO but still I'm very very curious.
One thing that impressed me no end is actually something I've never seen in a game before; dynamic melee impacts. If you watch the video and read the tech it's the first game I'm aware of where punches, kicks, etc actually properly connect with your opponent; no clipping or hits stopping a few pixels away... these things dynamically hit whatever they're swung at and stop just like it should. First time I'm aware of it in gaming... 3D or otherwise =o
Sure it won't effect gameplay but for me that earns major immersion points.
Now I just wonder if the game itself will actually be any good XD
edit: you mean this right Daza? ^~
Havent seen the game, but F.E.A.R looks awsome.
Wah! Gem beat me to it
~gives him a runner-up cookie prize~
Oh and a rather cool image of the upcoming game too:

EDIT: It is not a terrible reaction to being shot, but in fact the female is back flipping out of the line of fire.
EDIT2: Also I love how the detail of the shells is coming out of the end of the shotgun.
I want to be "Flayra" lol
Heres to hoping it doesn't suck(though, I'm really looking forward to Dungeons And Dragons online, being its going to have fighting-game-style battles).
Oh well. At least they'll always have made NOLF and Tron.
I'm still not sure what to make of the D&D online combat really. I've not seen anyone controlling it and though most of the combat looks really involved which is cool I did notice a couple of small moments that looked alarmingly like 2 people standing and taking turns whacking each other XD
Like most things only time will tell I suppose...

Lets do this scientifically,
MMORPG = Easy to screw up and make suck.
Movie -> Game Franchises = Almost always suck.
We can conclude MMORPG + (Movie->Game Franchise) = >1% Chance of Non-Suckage
As for D&D Online, I'm anticipating its not going to have the depth of better D&D games like Baldur's Gate II.
I think they will be blocking all names in the franchise. Currently, SWG does not allow you to be Luke, Han, Vader, Leia etc...
On a similar note, I'm hoping they have a beta so I can freaking try it. The game probably will suck, but at least the characters you play have good sense of fashion.
On a VERY similar note (read: relating to the exact same thing), I will name a character Bolt Vanderhuge.

That won't stop anyone. We just get creative names like, as mentioned, Teh_one8464674 or Kneeo, M0rfee0s, Tr1NTY312, THETWO, Ag3nt_Sm1t|-|, etc, etc, etc.
