How Does One Get "vet" Status?

E_FonzarelliE_Fonzarelli Join Date: 2004-09-05 Member: 31409Members, Constellation
So the other day I got online with one of my friends from another game. I introduced him to the game, but since I don't post on messageboards, irc, etc, becuase I have real life obligations (most of the time) like a girlfriend, school, work, etc, i'm wondering something. When we got in the same game together, I noticed he had a yellow medal icon next to his name, to which I asked, what is that yellow medal icon?

He said "Vet"

To which I replied, probably the obvious responce - "I'VE BEEN PLAYING THIS WAY LONGER THAN YOU HAVE!!!!"

And he laughed and said "I know. You introduced me to this game"

So... My BIG question here is, how the heck is "VET" status determined? I mean FREAKIN A... if you could look up my won ID and see how many hours i've played this game it would probably boggle the mind (please don't do this as it would probably make me sick, but i'm assuming someone will do it anyways).

I've had half life since the day it came out, and started playing NS in late October of 2001. How NS has changed over the years. Now, here it is, almost 3 years later... Wheres my vet icon? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Does getting this status require massive online participation, to which I will never be a part of - like IRC and this forum? If so... well... I dunno.

Either way, when I get my next paycheck i'm going to donate to constallation, since its LONG overdue that I did so. At least then I can have some sort of icon to denote me as some sort of "non-nub"

The vet program is disbanded, no person can get vet status now.

There was a vet program, basically anybody who had a clan and scrimmed x amount of times was in.

It was poorly enforced, and brought a lot of noobs into the vet program. It was disbanded.

NS came out in 2002, not 2001.

Personally, I think the icon should be removed. It didn't mean much even when the program was still running (except maybe during the early days of it) and it means absolutely nothing now.

    lol...

I was in a major... haze... around that time... On a server yesterday someone said NS had been out since 2001, and they had an admin tag on, so even though I said 2002, I believed them

If you want to be a vet, you need to:

    1) Script like a ****. You should have your mouse axis bound to scripts like +jump and leapbite, blinkswipe, etc. Your entire process should be automated on the numpad.

    2) Whine on the forums a lot. If you're not whining, you're not a vet. Make sure to call people who disagree with you 'noobs' and be sure to state repeatedly 'You don't know anything, you're an idiot.' It also helps to randomly link to worthless, inane demos you know no one will ever watch and pretend you've proven a point.

    3) Sooner or later at least pretend to join a clan. Give it a real stupid name and an equally lame clan tag. Stuff that advertises IRC channels will make your enemies quiver in fear.

    4) Be sure to stop into random pub servers now and then with every cheat and hack known to god running, and even some you don't. Make it obvious, and laugh when you end with a k:d ratio in triple digits. Be sure to insult the pubbers by calling them 'slime' and make fun of the fact that they're not vets like you.

    5) When people complain about you, see step 2.

    * Note - Following these steps may very well likely make you the laughingstock of the entire non-vet community.

If I had the choice, I would get rid of my vet icon. Is there a way?

I was just impatient and wanted free PTing, I don't want to be looked at like someone who does the above (2 posts up).

    It was a joke.

    Somewhat.

Though it can't be that false. Three replies and people are already getting their panties in a knot over it. Waaaaah... need a god damn tissue?

You'd think the 'bind +jump to mouse axis' would've been a clue.

I always thought it suited the kind that was good at NS, not some random oh lets make a clan and just scrim alot.

VETs are nothing more then regular players, those who disagree are just people with big egos.

Add "auth" to your userconfig.cfg. Should get rid of the icon every time you play, and if you want it back just type auth in console again.

It was indeed a good system untill it was opened up to include everyone and their grandmother who could show up with 6 people with the same tag infront of their names.

After that, all respect for that yellow icon I had went out the window.
