Whoa.
There was a topic on this, yes, but more for the beta and it's old enough I was uncomfortable bringing it back up... So, if this is inappropriate please lock/do whatever.

However. I must speak of the awesomeness of this game. It is... awesome. And you must play it. Since the SP demo came out today, you can. Hell, the cinematic alone is worth the download!

Relic rules. They've got the Starcraft/Warcraft formula (in the interface and such; I know Warhammer came first), but with enough new stuff added on top to really add some awesome depth to the game. Morale is fun to play with, cover makes for some great tactics, and individual unit equipping leads to super-neato squad loadouts and variation. Hooah. Much love. *hug*

Fileplanet also has a thing to enter to win an alienware. If you care about that sort of thing. Meh.

Well, If you're saying so KFS, I'll give it a run-through, though I was there the first day of the closed beta on FP(sub), and I thought it was crap. Pure, utter, crap. Lets hope this is different.

Well, Quan, you were playing a beta, and a much earlier one than many of the people who have also played the beta at that. I'm in the open beta, and I think this game r0xx0rz already. I like the resource model, it's not a brain-damaged "make these little trucks and then forget about them" deal. Resources are directly tied to map control, and by extension, success, just as they are in NS.

Furthermore, the Army Painter is 1337.

Personally I think this game (based on the demo) has the potential to become the best RTS ever!

Its far better then WC3 (which I do not like very much).

This game is going to be awesome sauce - what clinched it for me was having one of my big walkers (agh, can't remember the name of it) waylaid on the way to the battlefield by a squad of Orkz and having it just tear into them, knocking them all over the place and sending the survivors running after a series of bloody deaths. And then, of course, it walked after them shooting them in the back and saying ominous things in its robotic voice. I love it.

    The game has great animations.

The way the Dreadnought (the walker thing) picks up enemy units and literally squezing them to death (lots o blood).

And the structures are great too, when you place it a drop pod falls from the sky and your servitors go over and gets the thing into place.

Drop pods also fall upon the drop areas of the structure you are training troops in.

Yeah, it rocks. As KFS says, the intro is superb, you should really just DL it for that alone if nothing else.

It's no Warcraft 3 or even Homeworld 2, but it sure is a great RTS game and it definitely captures the 40k universe. Good job Relic!

Yes, its not a bad game but I would have enjoyed it more if it was turn based.

Man, I haven't played a TBS since Alpha Centauri. That was a great game. Tried Moo3, but it just wasn't nearly as good as MOO2. I guess I did give Imperium Galactica II a shot... That wasn't too bad, actually, but I just never got that into it. But yeah. Are there any recent TBS hits I should check out?

Hmm, which ATI card? MY 9800 had no issues with it. Ran beautifully, in fact, I can probably crank it a bit higher (had it at 1024, highest settings).

Nah, my 9800SE is borked, can´t play 3D games at all without random crashing. Too bad I don´t got the cash for a new one. (note to myself: never buy SE-cards, even if they´re cheap as dirt)

It did that for me, too, but I just waited it out for a few minutes and it worked fine. Maybe try giving it a little extra time before you kill it?

If you mean the progress bar on Install Shield just sits there, just leave it. It will move eventually. Think I had to wait about 4 minutes or so.

TBS games rule your ponce. Recently, or at least semi recently, we got UFO: Aftermath.
It's a very good game and very strategic, it just doesent do justice to the earlier UFOs.

    Great game nevertheless.

On topic tho, I liked the FMV and the actual complexion of the game. (especially the cutscenes. Done some nice work with an RTS engine) But my 9100 doesent like the masses of units chewing eachother up.

It runs.... weird on my computer. I can't read any text (it's all just blocky), a huge amount of screen around the menu options and the top toolbar, as well as the bottom toolbar thing (minimap etc) is filled with just pointless black which takes up most of the screen. All of the models have a huge square of black around them and so on. But the beta runs fine on my comp. Dunno why the demo doesn't work very well.

i'm playing the beta of this, and its about the only RTS bar Total Annihilation that has ever held my attention or captured my imagination. being a WH40k art&literature junkie beforehand helps, of course ^^. i'll get this demo and hopefully find time to play it

yup, back to not agreeing with Quaunaut in any way at all, again.

Personally, I think it's the best RTS since Total Annihilation. The gameplay forces you to be wonderfully aggressive while still maintaining a semi-high level of tactics (more than warcraft 3, around Starcraft's level, I'd say), the morale implementation is so much more than just a gimmick, the graphics are completely out of this world, and the intro is simply the best intro I've seen in years. Mucho impressive.

And thank god for that. I can't stand the heroes in WC3 half the time I feel like I'm playing some crappy RPG...

And I'm loving Warhammer. Nothing since Total Annihilation, Starcraft and Red Alert has gotten me this addicted to an RTS. The resource model is awesome. The animations are superb and even those Uber units are balanced. The only thing that needed fixing in the beta balance wise was entangle which they've done. It's about time someone comes out with a game to dethrone WC3 and possibly get Blizzard to make SC2

I loved Warcraft3 & TFT, so i love this game!
It is great, the whole feeling is verry comfortable, the resource system is nice, and it looks beatufull.

    + on the buy list.

Its fun, and the resource system rocks, but it takes too many soldier to do anything. I got tired of having smallish assault squads (two control groups of assault marines), so I built a few dreadnoughts, and a crapload of marines.
  • ChemChem Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2555Members, Reinforced - Shadow
A small force is needed if you upgrade the squads and add sereants. 2 missile launchers a heavy bolter with a plasma rifle is potent as hell. Upgrading you squads can give you a huge advantage and don't forget to research their accuracy upgrades. Each marine squad can have 9 total people in them. 8 marines 1 sarge. And that's plenty to deal with orks provided you have 2 squads or a few flame throwers in the mix. The only time you need a crapload of marines is when you fight Squiggoth and the warboss. For them I recommend heavy bolters and plasma rifles
  • TequilaTequila Join Date: 2003-08-13 Member: 19660Members
Just completed the campaign mission, 'twas a lot of fun. Everything was going too well until a certain showdown with both the Squiggoth and the Warboss; I took them down, but not without losing every single unit. 20 fresh squads of marines, 6 dreadnoughts and 2 whirlwinds later and the entire map was cleansed.

Weird... Im the exact opposite, the fact that you control heroes and not just a large squad of units is the reason i like WC3. Before WC3, I hated RTS games, but now i love em...so ATM im downloading the demo...hopefully it lives up to the hype.
