A Few Questions

<div class="IPBDescription">scripting bad? wtf?</div> hey, i was just wondering about the scripting=cheating programming that the game has, i read part of the post about leap+blink and it basicly says that having a script like

alias +func "slot3;wait;+attack"
alias -func "-attack;slot1"

is consitered cheating? my control's are uparrow = forward, whereas 1-4 still are slot1-4, so weapon changing is more then a finger away. so scince i have 5 mouse buttons i bound 4 of the 5 buttons to alias's like the one above for all 4 attacks, it just made sence to me. and i was wondering about why i kep dying whilke using leap as a alien... i read that post, and now i find myself disapointed i can't use scripts like that, whats the big deal about them, sure every player doesn't start with a script like that, but its no reason to restrict tfc vets the fun of scripting.

please don't get me wrong though, i'm not flaming or anything like that. i really do enjoy this game. i just want to be able to script, i was even gonna suggest class scripts like tfc (marine, commander, skulk, gorge, lerk, fade, onos) but if your trying to cancel out every/any scripts, why not just remove the semicolon funtion? with out that you can't put more then one command at a time, if its even possible anyway. i like my scripts, there not cheating IMHO. please don't take them away from me.

The reasoning behind that is, if I'm not mistaken, because they don't want to give aliens the unfair advantage to be able to do multiple abilities with one keystroke, like leap/bites and blink/slashes. They want you to switch weapons manually like marines have to. If you use WASD movement config, really just get used to switching abilities with the number keys above you, which will be just as easy as trying to master your script you had written.

Well, in the opinion of the developers, they are. It is dissallowed because they consider the time to weapon switch to be a part of balance. Just like they consider the mouth of the skulk to be a balancing factor, by blinding the skulk for a moment while he bites.

Think about it. Why did you make that bind? Because it made you more able to kill the marines. The fact that it does that means it is unbalancing.

the bind isn't just for aliens, i use it as marines too, if i'm madly shooting my hmg/lmg and they get too close i pull out my knife and stab a few, or i pull out mr. pistol if my clip runs out and shoot somemore, maybe just enough to kill a few more aliens. it works both ways. my only guess is they did it so vets at scripting, can't get an advantage over newer players. but then noone stays a noob forever right?

No, its because, for example, an alien who can switch between abilities instantly is a very hard alien to beat. It would mean a single skulk could do parasite-parasite-parasite-leap-xeno-leap-leap-bite-leap-bewm with no trouble.

Marines rely a lot less on switching between weapons, so it affects them less.

If someone doesn't want to learn scripting they shouldn't have to do it. Veteran players shouldn't be better than new players because of their scripts, they should be better because of their superior skills.

well then why doesn't he put a slight delay between weapons switching and using? if you have fast enought fingers, you can *still* do the same thing, given you use wsad and your weapons changes are right above, also i thought of anothing thing.. if he wants things to be switched to 'like they were ment to be' why are there commander hotkeys? agreed that they are still kinda buggy, but they are still there.

arch i agree with you, they don't have to, but its not not anyone can't do what i script by themselfs. i just prefer to do it in 1 keypress instead of 2.

partly my point. you have an advantage over me, because i can't change that fast.

(edit) lets jsut say i have slower reflexes then some people, so i turned to scripting as a solution, now i didn't have to, but i chose to.

(edit #2) (sorry for the edits) now without scripting, you ALWAYS have the advantage.

i also found hotkeys bound to the mouse just don't work, was that done on pourpos too?

well i read back in the fourm and flayra said something about its not a script prevention, but a get a weapon you don't have to use cheat prevention, so does this mean i'll be able to use my beloved scripts?

No need to spam so much, Corp.

Also, just be patient. As Flayra has said, he didn't expect anyone to get killed by the 'anti-script' if they weren't using scripts. As many players from other, more twitch-filled, games have been killed now, the issue is being looked into, as Flayra said. Just be patient, okay? :-)
