Yes im a guide and a vet, woopdidoo. You guys should learn to just play the game and stop getting all defensive or **** at other players who at the moment are inheretly better than you are. Seriously, bridge the community more by making autobans for the advanced players. If you guys dont like a certain veteran on your server because he disrupts the game by yelling at players, go ahead and ban him. Dont ban everyone else who tries to adhere to the rules of a specific server. Its sad that the community has resorted to banning the players who can aim and bunnyhop. This problem would probably be solved of all the sterotyping if the basic icons could not be used by servers to give to whom they please.

I'm a veteran, and I rarely use chat when I'm in game. On most servers I can (or at least used to be) able to walk in and own the place up. I never talked **** about it, responded to "WTH" accusations, or other crap like that. But the stereotype the pub community has against vets has to stop, its utterly ridiculous. If you were to say that "All blacks are criminals" you would be shunned by the rest of the country. However, using the same line of thought against vets is absolutely ok, even though you are basing your judgements on the actions of a few.
I know that I (or at least was at one point) am better than the average NS player. I'm not going to give you **** about it, nor do I to be called a hacking asshat because of a 16x16 yellow icon next to me name.
The majority of vets are good guys. If you run into one who isn't, ban him from your server. If problem players are banned, problems on your server will magically go away. I'm not going to treat anyone like crap because they don't have a yellow icon, and I don't want to be treated like crap because I do have an icon.

This game is in beta, and it's very possible for a lone marine to take down a team of skulks in a pub, seeing as the unskilled skulks will walk, not bunnyhop, because people on other servers (voogru, g4b2s, fat) completely disallow bunnyhopping, and their admins ban a fast bunnyhopper on sight, and then tell the people that bunnyhopping is an exploit to the game.
You're blaming the wrong people for being able to own a server.

People can think what they want about themselves. This sounds a lot more about Icon envy more than anything else.
Personally, I think those people who ban for an icon or whatever lose their escape when they get owned by players with the vet icon. Its easier to justify it.
A lot of these server communities do not like outsiders that are better than them, it removes their illusion of acutally think they are good. Because if they were good they would't have a problem against playing said vets. But because they are elitist (because chosen by the developers of NS), others feel shunned and spiteful.
Also some really good players with Vet icons choose not to talk. There is nothing wrong with that. When server admins justify and say that those people cheat and they don't, they are just making themselves feel better about banning someone who is just playing the game.
Here is a solution, if you don't want to listen to the vets, just mute them <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
1. there are quite a few of those players that have the "vet" icon that are arrogant and quite annoying.
2. there are probally a lot more players with that same icon that are not.
3. what is being asked is that those with the "vet" icon, think a litle bit more on their behavior, mostly for their own sake, because as it is now, the majority of players have a very negative view of players with the "vet" icon beside their name, and steps are being taken against them.
that being said, i actually think that the removal of the "vet" icon is the best option. The veteran program should/could have been about players being good eksamples of fair-play and generally good behavior, but as it stands it has lost most of its meaning, and at best it shows that the player have been around since a very early version.
maybe it should be revamped to exactly that, an "award" given to players that exhibit the traits that are wanted in any online gaming community, fair-play, good behavior, friendliness and so forth...
and if you don't want to play with good players, then I suggest you learn how to play professionally, OR ATLEAST skillfullly. If you're just playing for fun and those mean old veterens ruin your day by killing you, then I think you need to get just a wee bit better, or leave the server. Don't whine to the admin and mock the better player, just get better. It takes time, god forbid I know, but once you become a skilled player, the game just get's better, and so does pubbing (in those rare scenarios that you aren't banned).
Most of the good players have resorted to playing on ONE server, and that is the =PT= server for the simple fact that pea (an admin to the PT server) comes on ventrilo with us, talks to us, and enjoys when we play on her server.
So if any of the vets still wanna pub without being called ridiculous things, go to the PT server, it's usually full of decent players. Don't bother with other servers who think they owned good players with blockscripts (which really doesn't do a damn good).
I was just banned from the Deadly Dozen server.. with a HUGE message that popped up on the screen... I just finished execing my noscript.cfg (which unbinds all of my scripts, so I can play on mp_blockscripts 1 servers) and a message pops up on the screen:

Actually I enjoy playing on the old CoFR server now called Fr31ns, which has minimal scrub population, and most of the regulars are people who just try harder when the teams aren't in their favor, instead of whining, crying, accusations of cheating and excuse making that is ever so popular amongst low skilled server regulars.

Also some really good players with Vet icons choose not to talk. There is nothing wrong with that. When server admins justify and say that those people cheat and they don't, they are just making themselves feel better about banning someone who is just playing the game.

Problem solved.
2. there are probally a lot more players with that same icon that are not.
3. what is being asked is that those with the "vet" icon, think a litle bit more on their behavior, mostly for their own sake, because as it is now, the majority of players have a very negative view of players with the "vet" icon beside their name, and steps are being taken against them.

that being said, i actually think that the removal of the "vet" icon is the best option. The veteran program should/could have been about players being good eksamples of fair-play and generally good behavior, but as it stands it has lost most of its meaning, and at best it shows that the player have been around since a very early version.
maybe it should be revamped to exactly that, an "award" given to players that exhibit the traits that are wanted in any online gaming community, fair-play, good behavior, friendliness and so forth...
Most of the good players have resorted to playing on ONE server, and that is the =PT= server for the simple fact that pea (an admin to the PT server) comes on ventrilo with us, talks to us, and enjoys when we play on her server.
So if any of the vets still wanna pub without being called ridiculous things, go to the PT server, it's usually full of decent players. Don't bother with other servers who think they owned good players with blockscripts (which really doesn't do a damn good).
I was just banned from the Deadly Dozen server.. with a HUGE message that popped up on the screen... I just finished execing my noscript.cfg (which unbinds all of my scripts, so I can play on mp_blockscripts 1 servers) and a message pops up on the screen:

Actually I enjoy playing on the old CoFR server now called Fr31ns, which has minimal scrub population, and most of the regulars are people who just try harder when the teams aren't in their favor, instead of whining, crying, accusations of cheating and excuse making that is ever so popular amongst low skilled server regulars.

Dude, I got my second temp ban from bashing the PT's.
That most likely was a donator, not a nsguide. Remember the guide icon was (and still is on some servers) being used by server admins to denote donators or admins of some type. Most guides are nice people.
I can follow what's going on in the game too. Anybody can, that's why there's a minimap. My point still stands. You people who just play for yourselves and shun every other player on the server are swine in the most porcine sense of the word, and I'm tired of hearing you brag about how antisocial you are. Grow a thicker skin and cope instead of crying over how persecuted you are because you pick really really lousy servers to play on. This goes for everybody.
