Parasite In Combat Play

whats the point when we have sof
Hm just a short thread here, just in combat it seems there is a problem. Parasite makes one marine appear when hit, where as scent of fear makes all marines appear with one resource point. I'm finding parasite useless when I'm a skulk, don't know about anyone else, but in combat its really unused and a waste of an ability. Any other thoughts?

Well parasite lets you track enemies while also having regen or carapace, or celerity. So that is useful...and a good team will have everything parasited very quickly.

I understand your point though, it's why I support the idea on the other thread of swapping leap and para with some changes. It helps give people an incentive to use SoF at the start of a game, and also takes away that idea of a "uesless" (though it would be very harsh to call it that) ability.

Personally I don't find parasite useless, it just flies in the face of having SoF as you say, which doesn't encourage you to use sensory chambers. Arguably though having leap would fly in the face of using celerity, but I wouldn't know until it was balanced and tried.

Well, SoF does indeed make parasite a joke; BUT! only for the players who evolve Sof. not everyone does. if someone is going to be onos; most onos want 2 of the DC evos, celerity, and (usually) stomp. that's 4/5 right there. SoF might not always be a viable evolution, depending on what evolution set the player is most comfortable with. I personally would opt for cloak instead.

So, when you parasite marines, you help these team mates out. it can warn them of marines advancing on a hive. Or of a large group waiting at the end of a hallway (sucks when you accidentally run into that...).

Nevermind that even if someone plans on getting SoF, they might not want to/be able to at the start.

I believe in one game, as aliens, we won in the 1-2 min range reapeatedly, simply because 5 of us kept parasiting marines. they could no longer wait at the end of a hall catching the other rushing skulks off guard with nowhere to go.

Well, as stated above (not getting sof), parasite is the skulk's only long range ability. Just in case you need to use it.

heh...i'd hardly use its range ability as any kind of positive description of the ability

If you've ever tried parasiting everything AFTER getting SoF, you will find your team mates will love you long time as they get virtually the same effect but without having to spend the points.

Would you rather have leap or SoF on a small, overviewable co map? Right, leap. So parasite is a very cheap scouting ability, and hence valuable.

scent of fear is not really usefull if you have a good skulk and/or a good lerk on the team. most if not all marines take resupply, that makes a lot of noise so a lerk gassing some around can make half the marine team audible for the rest of the alien team. parasite = free SoF for the whole team...

Whats the point of this thread? Do you want parasite removed? Parasite will always be useful and not much use for sof in small combat maps. Atleast to me that is.

Whats the point in wasting your life here? Go make something more helpful somewhere else, like in a church raising for charity or something.

Parasite is free, SoF isn't. I don't really see a problem here.

The name 'parasite' is a little misleading, for the parasite doesn't do anything parasitic. I'd like to see a parasited marine either take more damage when attacked by an alien, or possibly recieve less health from health packs/resupply.

    That's just my two cents.
