Look for pixel size (look up close at the monitor - not the numbers), max resolution, max refresh rate (75 at least, 85's good). Native res: 1280*1024 Response time: Less than or equal to 16 ms. (Refresh rate is for CRTs, LCDs use response time, there IS a difference) Contrast ratio: 400+:1
Find the cheapest priced LCD for those specs. Good hunting. (I don't live in the UK, so I can't recommend a particular brand, as it might be scarce or not even on market)

If you read PC gamer(UK) (if you don`t have a sneek peak in the newsagents) this month they have a comparision of 5 LCD monitors and tips on what to look for.
They reckoned their best one was one for £370 with additional crappy speakers and a webcam but its refresh rate was 12ms. I can`t remember the make though (since I`m at work) I`ll update this tonight if I get a chance with the make....
I recommend you look at the models in question. The CTX is a bit ugly (IMO), but it's cheaper. Make sure you get a DVI connection if you choose it, though.
check out Tomshardware.com for monitor reviews - they do an LCD review about every 6 months. They rate a bunch from different manufacturers on a bunch of different points - not sure who their personal favorite is anymore.
Personally, I'd go for the second one: the differences in contrast ratio (max. 600:1) and response time (16ms is better than 25ms) clinch it. I still reckon you should see if you could find one in a Comet or suchlike, just so you can determine for yourself.
It freeks me out that niether of those list a comprehensible refresh rate. Does anyone know how to translate the Vrefresh rate and Hrefresh rate to common terms? I don't like buying things that don't tell me all the info, because a 60hrt monitor is a real pain in the butt.

I can definately recommend you to *NOT* get a KDS piece of crap though.
