Redempt+cara=bugged

unkillable aliens
I've been noticing that in combination with carapice, redemption works too much. They were never designed to be used together, and their combination in combat creates unstopable aliens. I just played a game as an onos with cara+redempt, and I didn't die once, since I got both upgrades; I redempted at upwards of 30 times though, a 100% redempt ratio.

There must be some parameter in redempt probability that doesn't take carapice into account. Fix it.

i believe its because onos got more armor added on with carapace in b5, so when the onos gets down to his normal percentage for redempt (not sure what it is) he stilll has alot of health and still armor left over i think.

the aliens need to not die since they allways spawn as skulks, just cuz you redempt doens't make your team invincibl

It sure keeps the marines from getting xp though, which is rather important!

It's not "bugged," the reason is that when Cara Onoses get down to Redeeming HP values, they still have a decent amount of armor left and so they aren't losing the HP fast enough for Redemption to fail.

Well, to be fair Redemp can limit your effectiveness since you redempt a bit before you would have died. So, its less damage overall.

Still, I agree, its a bit unbalancing.

And spawning as a skulk with a long Onos gestate time to fend off massive hoards of jetpackers with HMGs and GLs isn't unbalanced?

I just went and tested the redem Onos strategy, and it worked mostly well.

On the alien-favored co_faceoff, lethal. On the marine-favored co_core, not as much. But it still nonetheless powerful enough to give the aliens the offensive edge they need to get the marines off their nuts... err I mean hive.

Redemption has been 'useless' for so long that it is easy to mistake 'useful' for 'overpowered' in its case. We'll of course keep an eye on it, but it seems too soon to make a decision into either direction about it.

The current nature of Redemption is such that it will always be weak for one species and/or overpowered for another. There is no middle ground as long as the redeem rate is the same for all species. Even now, it's still pretty crappy for Skulks but rarely fails with Onoses.

Dont the redemp start wroking at 35% hp/armor left?

By this cara/rede onoses are best you can get nowdays on co_

Add celerity there and you wont die unless you have shotties against.....

It has a Fifty percent chance of redempting for every second you spend below 45% health and armor, if I remember correctly.

Who cares if it never fails for the onos? Freaking attack the hive so when they redempt they will be a weak onos in the hive ripe for the picking. It's not overpowered, you aren't being offensive enough.

nah, just buff onos hp and it'll be fine. and if u want to then nerf the armor bonus from cara do so.

The problem is that if you nerf it in combat, NS suffers.
NS has been mutilated enough in the name of combat. Figure out better solutions to combat problems.

I just wish redept gorge would work more reliably, I walked around a map with redept and 15hp for like 5 minutes and never got redepted... then a marine comes up to me and knifes me... now THAT was irritating.

I remeber way back when, when gorge always got redempt unless your were in fact one crazy **** gorge..

    Agreed 100%

But if the marines camp the area outside the hive the onos will have a nasty death the second time he goes out. Redemption has such a huge delay after it is used.
  • MavericMaveric Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1101Members
Easy way to fix this is to let marines and aliens get exp from attacking eachother as if they were attacking the CC/Hive; they basically get exp for each shot they land on you. This way a redeeming onos might eventually find himself against several HMGs, which would be enough to kill him fast enough before redemption kicks in.

No nerf or buff, just a alteration.

Plus redempt cara fade in combat is way easier to rack up kills with.

Oh and it's a 45% chance every second once you're below 40% health. I've been using the Onos + Cara + Redemption combination for quit a while, you can die. But the cool thing about it is in order to die every Marine would have to be firing at you wasting their ammo, allowing your team mates to slaughter the reloading opposition.
