yes 6 60 gigs lol the access time to the game is super fast one reason my server rocks
the only way those drives are faster than mine is if they're scsi and if they are you payed for that performance so i have not problem with that.....
but you forget to mention that the fastest a ide hd can access is 50mb. and VERY few connections will transfer faster than 10mb a sec. I don't even have to mention that 50 is well above that 10 mark.
I was saying, one SCSI drive is fine for gameservering, usually you use a RAID (especially one that HUGE) for file serving.
How about you give me FTP access on that box? I'll make you happy!

Your talking about maximum sustained trasfer rate, max burstable transfer rate, etc. Other than loading maps, your HDD shouldn't be used much at all. If you haven't noticed, HLDS eats RAM. It loads everything it needs into RAM and just runs it from there. (Assuming you don't heapsize it and put a cap to its usage.) So yeah, a SCSI RAID 1+0 is nice and all, but it shouldn't really speed up your server while a map is in progress.
I'm going to stop posting in these threads. A third of the people are most probably making up numbers (server stats, usages), another third is trying to make fun of the first third but don't really know what they're talking about. The last group is for everyone else. (Personally, I try to stay in the last group, but occasionally I precede a post with a disclaimer and momentarily hop to the second group.)

I've accidentially hit Eject commander a few times also! Very easy to in a hectic moment of fighting. Luckily the chewing through my head had left me enough of my faculties for seeing my mistake and I promptly yelled my sincere apologies. It was embarassing. At least the 2nd time I hit "Eject" it was on another server.....
I'm running a 1 Ghz Pentium III with 384 megs of Ram (PC 133) on a 6 Gig hard drive on a Road Runner Cable modem and I can easily support 16 players. I only had about 45-55% utilization but I noticed that if I set it higher the pings went crazy. That's my rig. It can be found at www.geniusesinc.com. Other than the severe balance issues the game is great.
