Question About Configurations

<div class="IPBDescription">saving on MOD overwrite?</div> I was just wondering if I change my config for NS wiull it overwrite my counter-strike config also? I don't think it will ,but I am wondering.. because I like my settings on CS, but on NS it's very hard to play with lots of detail on my POS PC.

I have counter-strike retail, I spose the same goes for half-life?

I know the controls won't, but I mean stuff like max FPS, gl_picmip, ect

How about If I save settings for counter-strike of half-life, will all of my mods use those same graphic settings when I install them?

just a question, thanks again

Normally, every Mod uses the Configuration defined in the default.cfg, hidden in a .pak-file in your Half-Life/Counter-Strike directory. Everything you customize is stored in a file called config.cfg. This file is unique for each mod. So there is really no problem with changing your Controls, they'll not change your Counter-Strike Controls. The Resolution on the ohter hand is used for ALL mods. So if you change your Resolution and/or your Graphic device (direct3d, openGL, software), this affectes also Counter-Strike. Single Changes like Gamma and so on are unique for each mod i think...

I only have counter-strike, I DONT HAVE HALF LIFE!
So to edit Natural-Selections cfg how will I do this?
Step by step please dont just tell me go into ns directory and edit it because I've done that hundreds of times and it never works!
What file do I edit if not NS config.cfg

    it's not hard man.

you can change many settings simply by pressing cofiguration when you're playing the mod and customize after selection ultiplayer.. , for more advanced stuff you can simply type it into the console to change or go to C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\ns and open the config file, it's text..... go to that pinned post about FPS for stuff you can change.

I've done that many many many times, the config file just resets and everything is gone.

In Half-Life (and counter-strike, which IS half-life), the only setting that is stored across all mods is your video mode settings. I.e. Resolution and Software/OpenGL/Direct3D, and your CD-KEY. These are stored in the Windows Registry. *EVERY* other setting in the game that you could possibly do is stored individually in seperate config files that differ between each mod.
