No, no...the music style!
Well, I want to see if there are other fans of hardcore (hXc) music in the NS community. I find fans of the style are pretty rare in the HL gaming scene, and...yeah, you get my point.

I've personally been into the hardcore scene for the better part of 3, maybe 4 years. Started listening to the music probably 6 or so years ago.

Anyway, if you dig the style, throw up a post in here, with some bands you like. And if you dont listen to hardcore, now is a time to start. It kicks.

The only hardcore band I like is Minor Threat, which most consider to be a hardcore punk band.

What the hell is hardcore anyway?

Some black metal is pretty nifty.

By the way, the only bands I can really recommend right now are Beauty to Ashes and Haste the Day, i've been listening to them non-stop recently.

HASTE THE DAY IS A CHRISTIAN BAND! SUCK THAT YOU 'ROCK' HATING CHRISTIAN COMICS!

*edit* Minor Threat was like, the beginning of the Straight-Edge Hardcore movement, gotta love them. And as far as 'what the hell is hardcore'...here is how I can explain it.

The **** backwards cousin of 'punk' rock, as it was obviously birthed from the ORIGINAL punk scene, by Minor Threat. Characterized by its screaming and growling lyrics, and complex breakdowns and riffs. The exact opposite of punk rock. Also, a lot of hardcore bands are straight-edge, too...you know. No drugs, alcohol, smoking, have self respect and integrity, et cetera.

STRAIGHT-EDGE ALL THE WAY BABY! *cough* I'm done now.

I think the only Hardcore I ever really liked was Snapcase, and that was like...4 years ago. I don't listen to much metal anymore, and black metal, something I used to be quite a connesseur of, is rediculous, especially Dimmu Borgir. So, here's a little joke on Shagrath:

Hardcore has the minor detail of being too closely associated with the Straighedge movement, which I swear manages to become more & more nazi-like every week....

And I just saw your quote reading through a second time :

QUOTE

Also, a lot of hardcore bands are straight-edge, too...you know. Can we add inflated self importance, condescending attitude to anyone not straight edge, and general 'clique' attitude to everyone else?

Regardless of that, I prefer a little more melody to my music, closest to the style I'll go for are Life of Agony / Downset / Biohazard etc.

I listen to quite a bit of hardcore (hardcore punk, beatdown, metalcore, etc).

Mostly listen to UKHC stuff like Stampin' Ground, Raiden, Knuckledust, Beatdown Fury, etc.

Also hardcore punk like Minor Threat, Sick Of It All, AFI and other stuff like that.

EDIT: UKHC > *

Shocky, consider that any seperated 'scene' exhibits those symptoms. Snub Goths, Techno jerks, elitist Punks, holier-than-thouh Straight Edge people; there's bad eggs in every subculture.

Seeing that I don't take any addictive substances, I could be considered straight edge, as well. Yet, I have little problem being on a party with people who get hideously sloshed (hell, it's a main source of amusement to me...).

Any "starter" bands for getting into Hardcore? I like Heavy Metal, how does "Hardcore" compare? (Metal bands include; Motley Crue, Some Guns 'n Roses, Van Halen, Alice Cooper and the like. Actually Alice is more rock n roll but whatever...)

Well, take the 'shock' effect the worst heavy metal bands had with their music at the time. You'll get the same out of listening to Hardcore. I was introduced to Hardcore Punk first, and was long lost searching for 'Heavy Metal' bands since all I heard from them seemed actually quite melodious to me.

Personally i'd start out with either hardcore punk bands (Definately Sick Of It All) or some more commercial emocore bands like Poison The Well or Funeral For A Friend. Killswitch Engage possibly, if you go back to their pre-fame stuff.

I'm pretty much the same Nem, the closest I'll go to addictive substances is a pint or two at most when out with friends, and I maybe actually feel 'drunk' per se once or maybe twice in a year.

My main problem was how often I came into contact with that subculture that annoyed me, but I concede the point that they are most likely the minority. I just find it worrying any group that bases themselves on their 'superiority' for keeping themselves 'clean'. Little too scarily Ayran for me.

Straight edge kids typically like to preach to people...they're worse than door to door Mormons, because they act like being clean of substances is some how holy. I can't stand it.

And Nem, shhhhh, all techno kids are nice.

hmm lets see...

- Between the Buried and Me
- Every Time I Die
- Norma Jean
- Hopesfall
- Haste The Day

And I would recommend Poison the Well or the old From Autumn to Ashes album for starters. The first two bands that got me interested in the genre.

Okay, time for me to pump out my list of bands!

As I Lay Dying
Beauty to Ashes
Atreyu
Between the Buried and Me
Dead to Fall
Hopesfall
Evergreen Terrace
Haste the Day
Bleeding Through
Alexisonfire
Light this City
Everytime I Die
Until the End
Martyr A.D
On Broken Wings
Remembering Never
Shallow Water Grave
This Day Forward
Misery Signals
This Runs Through
Throwdown
Underoath (Not as good as This Runs Through)
Unearth
Deathstar
Embrace Today
Flattery Leads to Ruin
Chloe Bridges

That's all I can think of for now, I know some of them are more 'metalcore.' And as for edge kids being elitists, I don't see that much around here.

Listening to hardcore, or even screamo stuff might be kind of tough on your ears at first! It's nothing like the melodic goodies of old school stuff like Van Halen. Though a lot of bands do have some pretty killer guitar work...I'd suggest something like Bleeding Through. They have some pretty heavy-hitting tunes, and enough of a blend between screaming, growling, and singing to make most heavy-guitar-driven-music fans happy.

I'm just getting into hardcore, but I like it very much...

Currently listening to:

Avenged Sevenfold
Alexisonfire
Everytime I Die
Norma Jean
Senses Fail - not as hardcore, but I'm diggin the new album
Poison the Well

Right now, I'd say my favorite is Everytime I Die... they just rule. However A7X's drummer rocks my world. His double bassdrum pedal sounds like it never frickin stops... I wonder if it's even real.
