Y'see, I don't mind that *now* the films will all link together, I mean assuming that at end of Ep 3 we see little Luke getting dumped with the Lars clan. That'll remove the big shocker of Ep 5, make it more of an emotional character shift as opposed to freaking out the audience.
However, I still want the originals, on their own, untouched, without them reeking of Lucas turds. Yes, I will probably buy the DVDs, but only because right now I HAVE NO OTHER OPTION.
I'd sooner be watching some other, purer, if somewhat more nefarious version.

But yeah, I love how people try and back up George Luca's action here by saying "It's his movies".
F*** THAT.
Hypothetically, if George Lucas went and altered something you really really liked as a child and added **** that was never there then removed any chance of an original version ever coming out again. I think you'd be pretty f***ing upset.
If he went back and changed Super Mario Bros. Added in a 3rd Brother. Changed Mario is a Purple ninja monkey. Had the last level first.
Yeah sound retarded? Because it f***ing is. You don't f*** around with original versions no matter who you f***ing are.

I'm gonna try to rent the trilogy from a local video place (they had Band of Brothers, the whole bot-sex rentable for 5 bucks for 2 nights, so I assume they'll have the trilogy) just to watch that "Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy" thing.
In response to Grill, the reason the Jedi Temple was left intact on Coruscant was the fact that Palpatine worked it all into one huge propaganda plot that made the Jedi of old the bad guys, and it worked quite well.
Anyhow, I don't agree with this trash at all. Episode 1 was horrible and to me, doesn't even count as a star wars movie, Episode 2 was slightly better, (NO JAR JAR) but still crap. Now they're entirely redoing the last of the good movies..argh.

I love reading threads like this. As if a 2nd rate sci-fi trilogy deserves so much comment.
Face it, Star Wars was a **** film, and only ranks highly for sentimental reasons. EsB was marginally better, RotJ was my favorite although only because its the one I remember best from seeing it originally.
If George Lucas wants to play around and modify the films to suit the revised storyline, then I don't have a problem with that. You think DaVinci painted the Mona Lisa on his first attempt? Pull the other one.

Maybe not, but did Da Vinci finish it, hang it in the gallery for 10 years then say "Oh, hang on, can I just re-do that bit there?"

Anyhows, got my DVD set of Lucas' tripe. Granted the detail slider has been set to max, I can see detail to the point where it detracts from the movie - watch ANH and wow at the thumbprints on Vader's helmet. Gasp at the pitted craggy makeup caked onto the Moffs in the Death Star.
A lot of those strange squares around the TIEs have been removed... but not entirely, and its really noticeable in the later films. The Executor still has its big square, as does the DSII.
In ANH, Luke's saber goes green, and why does the landspeeder have blue exhaust flame in the CG? Its the only time you ever see it, EVER, the rest of the time there's no flame. Disappointing. And only makes it look more CG. Speaking of exhausts... did SDs and the Falcon always have bright white exhausts? I thought they were more blue? ANH sabers look poor compared to every other film, that whole spinny foil thing is still evident... you think they'd clean that up...
Jerky Solo head is a lot better. Walking on Jabba is a bit smoother. Jabba has much better eyes, but unfortunately they're almost identical to the Dianoga, and still doesn't look like RotJ Jabba. Speaking of RotJ, the Sarlacc still looks like a turd. And the CG tentacles are obviously CG, nothing remotely close to the shade of the "real" tentacles.
ESB, new Emperor shots look...... poor. Its very crisp and clear, but shot from below, so its mostly the scrawny neck of the Emperor you're staring at. I did find this much different to the more mysterious shot we HAD in the best ESB.. and doesn't match with Ep I or II where the Emperor is nearly always hidden under his cloak.
RotJ, ghost Anakin stares at the viewer, not towards the left like Ben and Yoda. Which makes him stand out..... concordantly making it look more ridiculous.
Fett's voice seems to be Jango, but the troopers still sound like troopers.
All in all the only thing I find myself appreciating is the fact the DVDs are virtually immortal. However its cold comfort because this is now the THIRD time I've bought this trilogy, and this time I consider myself shortchanged because I wanted the original trilogy on DVD. I don't mind having the tweaked version of the tweaked version, but it doesn't push my buttons the way the original did.
Yes, I would rather have seethrough snowspeeder cockpits than Jabba in ANH.. or Solo doing the Corellian Head Jerk to dodge blasters.
Got my set of DVD's too. Thing that got me the most was that "Interactual" player install launching itself at every DVD.
I guess originals would have been better but oh well they're still DVD's and my Original cassettes were copied versions and my parents erased them a long time ago. The DVD's are my only copy of Star Wars now

Dub over James Earl Jones' voice.
What is more absurd. Assuming that the voice of a son (albeit a cloned one (though it never explicitly states so) becomes an EXACT copy of his father's voice despite obviously vast environmental and cultural differences.
Or assuming that the voice of some whiny teenage angst**** changes into the dark timbre of one of the most recognizable African American actors?
If you sounded like Anakin and had the opportunity to remake your throat, would you go with Anakin... or James Earl Jones? Real easy choice there folks.
Edit - The only legal issue ol' George is worried about is how to protect his sail barge in the country.
