I hope its more balanced than nice. you never know. hm. I changed a lot after playing the first unofficial beta. but its nearly impossible to predict if an gameplay element in a map is good or not. maye a feature that I thought to be very funny turns out as crap.

btw: you guys can talk much about"I want to play it NOW!" because you dont know the map. what should I say? day by day not able to play it because some lousy parts arent completed yet...

but at least the community will get some nice, new models to place in their maps, even if the map should be crappy.

For those that haven't noticed, the sig has been updated from 96% to " 97,5%" ... So there is your update

Europa had good looks, Rampage never. Rampage had better play than Europa, but I still think its a good idea for them not to be official, no disregard or offence meant to the creators.
• TOmekkiTOmekki Join Date: 2003-11-25 Member: 23524Members
with some balance tweak europa could easily be official. too bad the mapper has been inactive (?) for quite a while now.

i just hate it everytime i see a official class custom map. like mystic. or delta, although that would require some drastic layout-tweak.

the problem is that mappers are more tolerant regarding custommaps, "only" ns-players often dont want to try something new, exspecially if its NOT official. thats the fate of a mapper... thats one of the obstacles. and its sad for other people that tried and failed.

Apologies if this has been brought up already, but are you sure 'source' is a good name for a map for a HL mod, given the upcoming HL2:Source release? If a version of NS is ever made for the Source engine, it could be very confusing to also have a map called 'Source'.. nobody would know whether 'source' referred to the map or the game. It'd be like releasing a map called 'ns_naturalselection'.

Just a thought.

As far as the map goes, the sceenies all look very nice.. you might consider spending some ents on overlays, especially on those red trapezoid lights in one of the shots a few pages back. Great work though, looking forward to playing this one.

This is assuming that a version *is* made for Source - and if it is, it's not exactly going to be made within a few months of HL2's release. I bet it will take a few years for the dev team to even select an engine (ok, maybe not, but still). Thing is, I don't think this is going to be a problem since this map will most likely be forgotten (no offense) when HL2 comes along, because really... who's gonna remain and play HL mods? And even if they do, I doubt ns_source is going to be a problem cause I doubt people are going to confuse NS2 and ns_source for NS1...

...

besides changing a maps name that had been determined 1 1/2 year ago when there was not even the slightest sign of the hl2 release... I think it is not possible to me. but I have to admit that it is a bad coincidence and this doesnt make me too happy towards valve.

seriously, what are you talking about in THIS thread? who does care for hl2 when hl3 comes out? who does care for hl3 when hl4 comes out? who does care about YOU when you are dead? know what I want to say? thats all a matter of time, like everything on this planet. this statement just doesnt belong HERE!!!

what are we talking about anyways? wait for beta. maybe you like, maybe you dont. but this doesnt change the fact that this was the biggest project I worked on in my whole life. and when its finished I will celebrate. definitely. no matter what. *closes browser and continues texturing*

and there will ever be at least one person remembering this map like a father allways will remember his children.

I totally agree with grav! Let's wait for the new beta and then let's see what's goin' on!
The team around Flayra wouldn't stop creating things because of HL2....In my opinion it's pretty clear, that there will be an NS MOD for HL2 in the future! but not at this time! Their focus is on the coming up next version and the version after.

ps. What are these "dead" conversations about?? It looks kinda stupid in a thread wich is about a map

I think that Flayra may well consider a port like the HL1 port. Why? Because all you have to do is just recompile the maps and apparently the coding is simple and can be easily integrated to source. Although he may well decide to just crack on with NS2 for any given engine, so we all stay on the HL1 marvel of NS.

Woa guys, less of the personal attacks. It's an intersting discussion though.
(When I die, perhaps market shares in THV would drop 2 or 3%. My memory would live on though. Id like to think. But I ramble.)

--

HL:Source port is going to happen I think, without a doubt. It's a long time comming, and again its discussion is not for this thread.

As for "people not playing HL1 when HL2 comes out". Er...
a) Graphics requirements
b) Fire up ASE/Gamespy and check out the Unreal Tournament (original) or quake 2 servers. That's just 2 examples. There will always be die-hard fans of HL1.
--

ns_delta was marine biased. Sorry, but central marine starts are too hard to balance. Getting from one hive to the other was a tricky business, and the rts were mostly linear. The choke points on either side of ms were easy to hold too, (Elbow and War room?) giving you the entire upper half of the map. (1 hive and 5 rts)
Plus the fact that 2 of the hives are right next to each other and the remaining one is miles away.

--

Not being able to play your own map...

thanks for that janitor.
but saying "who will remember this map?" isnt nice anyways. never minbd, lets drop it.

I seriously thought about changing the name. its sad that this bad coincidence happenend. why couldnt they just give the hl2 engine another cool name?

hot:
ns_re-source (or, for easier handling, ns_resource) -> would not be too unfitting since the map even explains HOW the resources were "made"
ns_lifesource

quite cold:
ns_detection
ns_vantage
ns_excavate

fun:
ns_underground (but unfortunately the map lacks tuning-opportunities)

but seriously I think I will take a go with one of the both "source"-names.

I really would like to hear some more opinions about the possible name-change of ns_source. I don’t believe the name would cause any trouble when hl2 comes out but maybe later on there will be a little problem. If the ns team will port ns to the hl2 engine and keeps the “indoor”-styled maps I MIGHT rework my custom map. Perfectionists live a hard life, you know?

I try to buy myself some freetime because my next target is a playable beta. In my opinion it’s the only way to make shure, that you like it. There is no sense in spending hours to redesign short passages, if I have to remove/ change them later on. I just have to do the two connections that are left and some rework of the last hive to fit 100%. seriously, I can see the end of the endless tunnel

>>> granted <<<

and later on I realized what consequences this would have. renaming the directories wouldnt be enough. the biggest problem would be to redirect all soundfiles, ingame models. etc.

- create 2 corridors
