If there is a manipulator in HL2 MP its gonna be a hog to do, because it relys on the physics engine for a start, then you've got to factor in that whatevers being thrown is going to have to be a serverside calculation that would be sent to all the clients (The calculation couldn't be clientside because you'd have to involve damage and hitting other players) which would cause an awful amount of lag whenever someone decided "Lets use my manipulator" so realistically to have a manipulator "war" all the map would be is a box, with a single barrel in.
Sure the manipulator looks good in Single Player but thats because the game can focus on calculating the physics and not getting a computer half-way round the world to do it. Most (if not all the physics) were client-side because while the bottles flew around when your grenade went off they never did any damage and usually bounced off. Barrels were slightly different because they could do damage. But there was usually a pause while the server decided what was happening. Because they could deal damage.
Mind you I may be talking complete bull because this is an educated guess but having manipulators does seem like a bad idea as far as server strain is concerned.

it's probably better that the mod community handle HL2DM anyways. i wouldn't trust Valve to make a DM game after they have been overrun by CS. ironically enough, we will probably have to mod CS:S to get HL2DM. if you notice in the HL2 vids, there is no 'multiplayer' button at ALL in the HL2 main menu. all it says is 'new game'/'load game' basically. CS:S is a different executable. hopefully the HL2 SDK will have the netcode/multiplayer code base for HL2 and not CS:S.
i'd love to work on HL2DM if a competent mod team shows up. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm sure they'll mod in everything we hope for. and a huge pile more that we will wish we had hoped for, and then a lot of steaming crap as well, but we'll ignore that part...

I don't think they're really too mad about CS being included (y'know outside of those jumping on the CS-hate bandwagon because all the cool kids are doing it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )... I think the issue that's getting people worried is that there might not be a HL2 DM.

BUS is the unlinking of special in b5. Obviously. Since that makes it the _special BUS, and so we've exhausted all the lame "OMG RIDING THE SHORTBUS" jokes in one fell swoop.
Genius, really. Voogrus genius coding abilitys are like a dear horse corpse disposal facility.
