of videogames
what do you think?
wich realm of videogames is the longest?

The games story neend´t to be continuos or anything, they just have to play in the same realm or have teh same characters featuring.
Even different platform are allowed. Only thing is that all products you count in have to be comemercial products.

So what do you think, whts the longest video game series!
And don´t forget to tell us all parts, or it doesn´t count!

The Might & Magic series of games. There are 9 or 10 games where you take a party through various worlds (I think one is called Xeen, another VARN). Also, there have been 2 or 3 spinoffs that I think are 3rd person strategy games like C&C. There could even be more games, but I don't know.

[EDIT] I STAND CORRECTED! There are 41 games in the series! Do a search for 'Might & Magic' at gamespot if you don't believe me.

    Megaman series, most likely.

I'm not a fan of the games, so I can't list them all. I just know there's a shedload of them.

Are we talking individual games there, or ports? because I don't really think ports should count much when tallying up the numbers (seeing as they are for all intents and purposes the same game)

Can't really count the Final Fantasy series in this tbh as each ones has nothing to do with the previous versions other than the name 'Final Fantasy'

Darn. Time-wise, the Elite series would have 'em all beat. Elite on the C64 all the way up through X2: The Threat today, and the MMO X that they're using the X2 profits to create.

Personally, for sheer proliferation I'd vote for Pong. Every tennis game today could technically be counted as a knockoff, along with the 'solitaire pong' version, Arkanoid. And its updates/ripoffs.

    I vote Wing Commander.
Though I may be incorrect... it's been a long-**** time since the last King's Quest came out. Though that didn't neccessarily have a continuing storyline.

(Old school gaming. Take THAT, resident zombie-puncher!)

Obviously, Star Wars games. Their backstory has been fleshed out in 20+ games, countless books and comic books, a series of movies, some crappy TV shows, action figures, and some breakfast cereal. You don't get longer running than 1977 kthnxbai.

Talking about video games only, Tycho. Not religion.

And I believe Pac-Man and Donkey Kong have it beat on both counts. Plus, Donkey Kong has a GameWatch version.

But seeing as there have been more Star Wars videogames, even if we look only at the videogames Star Wars still comes out ahead. Since there were so many of them, and the timeline was advancing without respect tot he videogames, they covered more time than any otherr game series, because there were a lot of them over a span of time covering a rapidly changing universe.

    Win!

I meant "Game; Game 2 Game 3 Etc" Not a movie base then novels and games. I mean an evolving story.

And besideswhich... both Pac Man and Donkey Kong have quite a few more than just 50 iterations.

Don't underestimate the vast quantity of Megaman games. Not only do you have the main sidescrolling series(Plain, X, Zero, etc) but the number of spinoffs is mindnumbing. Megaman Soccer, those EXE games, the 3D ones... There must be at least 30 of them.

I think it's cheating to include the oldies though since half of them are just ports to various systems.
  • PithlitPithlit Join Date: 2003-05-07 Member: 16120Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
As said, if you want that we believe you count every title in.
Of ycourse you can say, tehre are 50+ pacman iterations, i only know a handful, so please prove your statement.
