Here's all the screenies I posted in the screenshots thread. Check out the difference in before and after for some of these screenies <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Also, map gets its name because it's meant to be a research facility placed in orbit around a planet near a binary star system (ie. to study them).
Which also means I'm gonna have to create a new skybox for it :/

Other than that, suhWHEET
The commander is going to have trouble placing structures in this section since the ceiling of the hallway will still be visible. You can fix this by turning the hallway ceiling into a func_seetrough so the its is invisible for the commander.

Heh don't worry I already thought of that problem and did that exact solution <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Carnage I kinda know what you mean - I needed some more texlights and that looked like a good spot. In retrospect, I'm probably better off finding another position for them.
I'm going to increase the intensity on those yellowish lights on the support beams too.
Bullethead yep that's one concern I already had, but I'm gonna come back to the tube section a bit later so we'll see then <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Besides which, the spot i took that screenie from happens to be the spot with the highest wpolys for that tube. The rest is average about 600.
Needs some tweaking thought...
Would you believe this is my first map?
I'm a little unsure of the lighting. I definitely like the red effect from the floor but the overall feel of the area is more similar to Quake3 than what I've become used to seeing in the NS universe. Perhaps more contrast in the lighting? Perhaps few strong lights to seperate the lit areas from the unlit ones. Perhaps bump the gamma up and lower the light power so that the contrast is greater. That said, have you actually gamma corrected these screenies or are they raw from in HL?
I think the texturing is a little bland as well and because the brushwork is fairly undetailed (which isn't bad - the floor actually looks really cool) without good texturing it just looks ...well...like half-life...and most of the ns maps look 10 times (at least) better than the original half-life maps.
Anyways,
Good work so far - keep it up!
I'm going to try working on extending the texturing a little (wow that's a lot of -ing), but I don't want to hit the limit, nor do I want it to look like a "fruit salad" of textures. Also I'm starting to be of the opinion that if in doubt, chuck in a strategically placed texlight and it makes plain things look cool <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Screenies from that t-junction area post-modifications:

ps. to the rest of the world - "chuck in" is aussie-talk for "put in" <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
- added bar along the wall with red lights behind it for a contrasting effect
- added wire panel on the roof (with broken segment and {wires func_walls)
- added broken-off panel on the floor
<a href='http://samah.customer.netspace.net.au/files/ns/ns_binary_part0007.jpg' target='_blank'>http://samah.customer.netspace.net.au/file...ry_part0007.jpg</a>

- extended red lighting beam thing around the corner somewhat and started working on a nearby corridor with similar theme
- removed upper texlights and added glowing coretexture for contrasting blue/red light effect
Opinions on the coretexture thingy? I'm not sure if it's better or worse.
It may or may not stay.
Regardless, I'm going to start working on the next major section.

Edit: Helps when I actually UPLOAD THE FILES <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The coretexture thing looks crappy.
BALEETED ^_^
As per suggestion (ta samejima) I've removed that and toned down most of the texlights in the immediate area. The only major ones are now underneath the catwalk, and aren't too dominating. Looking a bit better now.
Btw, had to delete some older screenies - ran out of quota <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Not really happy with it at the moment. Infestation is coming along nicely but the lighting is a bit crappy. Fixed my blue issues (thx Olmy for stating the obvious).

Edit:
Thought I'd mention that these 4 shots HAVE been gamma tweaked. They looked alright on my screen (LCD) but apparently they looked very dark on a CRT.
Started working on marine spawn.
Note that textures will be changing to look a little less repetitive (specifically the roof).

Comments plz! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The one hallway with the bit of detached trim and wires sticking out looks very nice, good use of detail and architectural variation there.
In general keep up the good work, but you might want to totally redesign that hive room. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
