Uber-|337n355 as far as hl goes
Did anyone see the Paroxyism Flamethrower video? This thing is RtCW quality! Can we have somthing purty like this for Beta 2.0 Flayra? Please!?!?

Or maybe even the chemical-spray gun we talked about earlier in the forums. That would be even more cool. Don't take this as a "OOH! I iz ub3r-n0ob gimme hugez0r gun!". The marines actually have a role to fill with this gun.

    Double-Post: Linkage

I believe they used PIPE (Paroxyism In-game Particle Editor) to create this flamethrower. Seeing as we have had our particle editor a bit longer, I think we can take this flamethrower/chem-gun idea to a new level. No word on if theirs is volumetric.

Yes it is freakin wonderful. Polymorph`s particle engine is very good

I believe the reason NS doesn't have a flamethrower yet is because Flay really wants it to be volumetric, which takes a lot of hack-work with the HL engine. Don't worry... when NS does get a flamethrower, it'll be beautiful. (:

Edit: just watched the video... er... I hope I'm not the only one not very impressed with this. Looked more like an orange glow-crayon than a weapon. And no, I'm not just knocking it because it's Paroxysm... I'm just saying it's not God's gift to flamethrowers.

I believe what coil was trying to say is that while this flamethrower is good, it is by no means the end-all best flamethrower possible with the HL engine. I'm sure we can all agree that RtcW has, hands-down, the best flamethrower in gaming existence today (any debates? --- I liked the Turok2 flamethrower as well. )... There is definite room for improvement here.

The video only shows the flamethrower from a first-person perspective.
However, you'll also see other people use the flamethrower in the game, from many different angles.

I love the RtCW flamethrower as well. But the Flamethrowers i've seen on the half-life engine (Desert Crisis, Team Fortress Classic, ect.) are dull in comparison to this. In the meanwhile, I found a bug in Battlefield 1942! I can crash into stuff with my plane and it wont blow up! It'll just stop like a rock! The catch is that you can only do it with a certian plane, and you have to hit it just right.

It seems okay I guess. The sprite itself is very ugly and that detracts a lot. A better looking flame sprite would help it immensly. To me it looks about on par with the Desert Crisis flamethrower.

No where near the level of RtCW's yummy bbq goodness :D

and I won't even begin to wonder why they chose RAR as their file compression format, considering that most people don't even know what one is or how to extract it...

Well after training a long time to be a good pyro on TFC, I got used to the ugly flamethrower. When I got DC I saw the flamethrower and I was amazed at how much better it was. But that is one seksy flamethrower...

I don't have much more to say but...

I'm having fun even if our flamethrower won't be around for awhile.

Their flamethrower graphics remind me of the Wolfenstein flamethrower. Actually it looks like a hybrid from both the Wolfenstein and AvP2 flamethrower.

Their flame thrower IS volumetric. Remember I used to be on the dev team too. I get occasional peeks, I'm thinking of going back to mapping for that mod

Hi, I AM from the Paroxysm team (as the sig shows/pimps). Some of you may know me as "That twat who keep slanderizing NS" Mmmh, i should probably play it soon.

    Anyway, back on topic.
Im glad to see that you guys like the flamer so much. Polymorph really is a very good coder. And yes Tzarcon it is volumetric. The sprite will be replace with something a litte better at some point. Yes there are still gaps between sprite if you move quickly but we dont know how to cure this. Oh and im sorry for the **obscenity** animation on the weapon model. That "sprayage" was an experiment gone horribly wrong "sigh". At least i learnt something from that, "dont try and be clever uunless you do the code".

As i said i havnt played NS yet but i believe (from what ive heard) that something similair to a flamer would compliment the atmosphere.

    Urrrghh...

I -hate- resurrected posts, but since it's another Modder, AND has some point to it, I'll let it slide.

GJ to Polymorph and the rest of the guys at Paroxysm
