The 1.04 games could literally go on for days, Im not the only one in here that can remember games that you played before going to school and could join back IN THE SAME game when you come back from school.
Yeah, some 1.x games had no limit. 3.0 seems to have a soft limit of about 40 minutes, but 1.x games could just go on and on. I can't remember the longest one but two hours sounds about right.
4 hours, ns_nothing, 2.0 or 2.01x, not sure. And I was comm all the way! We won in the end. And no, there was no turret farming... hard to believe It was a constant tug-of-war.
Longest game I was a part of was the 18 hour battle for eclipse... but I sure as hell wasn't in the game for that long
Back on 1.04 I remember being in a game that lasted just over 3 hours. It was a constant back and forth battle. Aliens had 3 hives and Rines, who had tech maxed out, kept pushing on Comp Core (ns_eclipse), eventually we would push them back and attack their base. Rinse. Repeat. Fun as hell though - one of the best matches I've ever played. My team (aliens) eventually won, but it was hard-earned. Most of the players who started the match were still there by the end.
Also, I can remember countless 2 hour games on 1.0x...
Frankly, I enjoyed them more than the shorter games that we have now.

before 1.03 or 1.04, or when ever they introduced fored team balance most games were very very short
Personal fav was managing to get up a second hime (right as the first went down), and laming it up when the game was 1 v 6.
eventualy people actualy joined my team and I THINK we won that one
Back in the ~1.04 era I played a game of ns_nothing that lasted for something around 4 hours. Something like a turnover of 12+ hives.
What made it so fun and odd at the same time was that 12 of the players played the game the _whole_ time with only 2 changing player slots. It was probably the best online game I've ever played in my life.
We started off well, got lots of res, 1 hive locked down. then a comm had to go, enter tug-o-war we killed about 10 hives I think.I knifed about 5 gorge eggs, trying to re-hive :S, Next comm had 2 go, I got in. killed anouther 5 hives. regained map controll.got it down to last hive.. base got onos rushed, we relocated, all three hives went up again, new base down. Nouther relo to MS that went down, Relo to a random node, died. Re-reloed to MS. YET ANOTHER relocate toa random node. regaind map than got locked at base. Aliens beged me not to relo again so i beaconed and we all hid.
Bout 4hr game + 1/2 hr hiding
We all had fun and many set new longest game records.

Hmm, something around 2 hours. Game ended in aliens f4ing or quitting. Map was co_angst (Beta 3). The hive was damaged enough to shoot it down 10 times. At least.
I had some crazy 1.04 games that went on forever. The one I recall though lasted for about 2 hours and like 45 minutes or something. It was on Ns_Nothing and was very intense. I was a marine and basically my team captured cargo hive back when it had 3 res towers so we could sufficiently survive with just those nodes. We'd have back and forth skirmishes with Aliens (mainly Fades) over territory with them having the 2nd hive ability, and basically when we finally got to push into vent with all the heavies, we discover that our base in cargo hive gets jacked over, so basically we switched bases (although we technically lost our primary source of income) so in the end we lost. And I just got up from my seat and was like... My God I just spent nearly 3 hours on this damn game and I didn't even win. T.T O well
I remember one game in ns_bast in some 2.xxx. It lasted about 2 hrs(not record once was in ~4h game) What made it so memoriable was the onos....
We had this one redemp oni whacking every place all the time..... Funny was that i got it baconambushed in ms wiht 3/3 full ha trainm and no the F****R didnt die and ran into our reloc so i had to make new base to ms. Eventually we won it after many hives....
6+ hour relocation battle at subspace on 1.04 Nancy.
You don't see any of that anymore though.

v1.04, the Battle for Eclipse... 18 hours or so. I was there for the majority of it, only taking short breaks for lunch and restroom usage.
Somehow, I'm getting the feeling that Marine weapons have grown significantly more deadly over the revisions. In 1.0x, a confrontation lasted approximately five to ten seconds. In current 3.0B5, it takes less than 1.5 seconds to kill a skulk with LMG fire.
That makes it less cinematic, and more instakill.. especially with the Kharaa workhorse class of Skulks, in the later phases of the game.
It wasn't really a game as much as it was "I douched the server."
I forget the map, but it has a weldable wall with a res node behind it. I placed a phase gate in the room and built it through the wall. I built a mini base inside this area and recycled everything outside.
I just sat in there and waited. I told the enemy team I was "Hiding". Of course like three minutes later my rine team told them where I was. I didn't make IP's because then they could vote me out of the chair.
I went afk and left the game running. The server had auto-fill so bots would join to keep the server going.
It ended when the admin came on and banned me for "hijacking the server."
Kind of funny with Onos faces merging through the door.
Lerk gas was able to get in the room, but the comm chair is air tight ^^;

it was a typical struggle to hold mess hall. 1 hive lock down, but later lost it. Marine front was push back to ms. This was going to be a marine defeat.
HOWEVER one of our marines managed to get OUTSIDE of the window on the map. And the comm proceded to build a base in the black space. Very funny stuff. Helpless marines shooting at windows, while aliens trying to break through the windows. Spores, xenocide, bilebomb, they tried everything. 2 gorges managed to get in, easily killed. 1 skulk, who got half the team. But finally a fade managed to break through. but it was great fun for all

I do have 4 screenshots from that game, one of them sampled below:
2.0 4 hours in ns_mineshaft , me and another marine praticly filled every where we could with turrets. The aliens were 1 live player and 7 buggy skulk bots. They had 1 hive and the only player was an onos with carapace. We did not have maxed out uppgrades for a bug (all the turrets i think) the arms lab couldn't uppgrade. We had over 4000 res to spend at the last hour. Constantly we attacked the hive with jps and hmgs and after been bitten, gored and digested a bloody lot of times we finaly took down the hive and won the match, ... i think or the server just crashed damn was i tired.
2.0 on ns_hera, about 3 hours long, marines kept pushing us back and forth accross hera entrance and reception, a couple times even making it to holoroom. It was awesome fighting like that, constant onos and HA going after each other. 10+ players per team too.
Comments
The longest I've ever seen a game go before it devolves into camping base is about an hour and a half, with both sides fighting furiously all the way.
And I was comm all the way! We won in the end.
